MISSION & OBJECTIVE
Los Angeles International Short Film Festival (LA Shorts Fest) ranks among the most prestigious international short film festivals in the world. The festival is accredited by the Academy of Motion Pictures Arts & Sciences and the British Academy of Film and Television Arts.

ABOUT THE FESTIVAL
LA Shorts Fest is the only film festival with 7 award categories recognized by the Academy Awards. In past years, 44 participants have earned Academy Award nominations, with 13 filmmakers actually taking home the Oscar.

LA Shorts Fest is an official qualifying event for the British Academy of Film and Television Arts (BAFTA) short film awards. This means that award-winners at the festival are eligible to win BAFTA's

Those who have been honored at the festival include directors, Paul Haggis, Bryan Singer, Jan de Bont, Shane Black, Jon Favreau and actors Gary Oldman, James Woods and Martin Landau. Many recognized actors and directors have screened films and attended the festival such as Scarlett Johansson, Demi Moore, Ashton Kutcher, Courteney Cox, Tim Burton, Jason Reitman, Terry Gilliam, Spike Jonze, Eva Mendes, Jessica Biel, Rachel Weisz, Hilary Swank, Josh Brolin, Kirsten Dunst, Rita Wilson and Vin Diesel.

LA Shorts Fest annually attracts more than 7,000 moviegoers, filmmakers and entertainment professionals looking for new talent.

GENERAL RULES
2014 Submission Requirements:

Films must have been completed after Jan. 1, 2013
All non-English films must have English sub-titles.
Films must be submitted on DVD or DVD PAL in (Region 0 or 1).
Works-in-progress will be considered, provided they will be completed prior to the Festival.
Preview DVD should be labeled with the title, running-time and contact email and phone number.
Please do NOT send stills or press kits. If your film is selected we will ask you to email us a still image.
All films selected for the Festival grant LA Shorts Fest the rights to use DVD and press materials from the film for promotional purposes.
LA Shorts Fest is permitted to retain DVD copies of each film selected as part of our festival library and for media educational use.
You will have the opportunity to upload a trailer or clip of your film. All films selected for the Festival grant LA Shorts Fest the rights to upload a 2 min clip/trailer online for promotional purposes.
Though not a requirement, we prefer that films NOT screened in Los Angeles County. Our selection committee will factor in previous screenings in the Los Angeles area when determining a films selection.
Films must NOT have screened in a SHORTS film festival in Los Angeles.
You may submit more than one film, but each one must be on a separate DVD and must be accompanied by its own completed submission form and entry fee.
If you would like to make sure that we received your submission, please enclose a self-address, stamped postcard which we will send back to you as your confirmation. The Festival will not confirm receipt of film by telephone.

Foreign entries paying with checks should be drawn in U.S. dollars. Only through a U.S. affiliated bank.
We do NOT accept international money orders

All fees are non-refundable
Entries will not be viewed without entry fee payment

Selection:

Film selection for the festival will be made by the Festival Committee.
The entrant will be responsible for ALL SHIPPING FEES.
All filmmakers will be notified via email of acceptance.
The LA Shorts Fest cannot be held liable for print/tape materials which may be lost or damaged.

TERMS AND CONDITIONS

LA Shorts Fest is hereby granted the right to utilize an excerpt from any film submitted and accepted for exhibition at the Festival for promotional purposes. The individual or corporation submitting the film hereby warrants that it is authorized to commit the film for screening, and understands and accepts these requirements and regulations. The undersigned shall indemnify and hold harmless LA Shorts Fest from and against any and all claims, liabilities, losses, damages, and expenses (including but not limited to attorney's fees, and costs of the court) which may be incurred by reason of any claim involving copyright, trademark, credits, publicity, screening, and loss of or damage to the screening videos entered.
