ReelHeART Feature Screenplay Competition

You heard the buzz from the last 7 years. The excitement still hasn’t stopped. Do NOT miss out on submitting your script for 2011 - Our 2009 2nd place screenwriter got top literary agent representation at the end of an exciting week at ReelHeART 2009. And we think big things are in store for our 2014 Top 3 Winners!

ReelHeART 2011 and 2014 had 2 winning scripts from the same screenwriter! And our very FIRST International winner from Scotland who took home 1st Place. ReelHeART 2012 - All Top 3 Winners were WOMEN from Scotland/USA, England UK, and Africa/USA.

This competition is open to screenplay writers of all levels. This competition is open to scripts of ALL genres. Your script must be a “Feature Film” script.

Please try to keep your script length to 120 pages MAX but preferably less. We'll work with you to pare it down. We do have a margin that it can be over. But the shorter the better for all. A shorter script is more commercially viable.

©ReelTube Video Category
In this time of Webisodes, Point n Post and where anyone anywhere can upload, view and share user generated videos, ReelHeART takes it old school.

In 2009, ReelHeART decided to introduce web videos to its film festival audience to see if filmgoers are willing to see something on the big screen they can see anytime they want on the Internet.

The criterion for getting in the category is fairly simple. We ask that you DO NOT SUBMIT ANY unauthorized clips from television shows, films and music videos.

We also ask that you DO NOT SUBMIT videos containing pornography, nudity, defamation, harassment, commercial advertisements and material encouraging criminal conduct.

Your video has to be all original with only "fair use" of material (i.e. music, an image, a quote).

Your video has to have production values, i.e. Clear Video, Clean Audio and a STORY. This category also includes cinéma vérité.

Other than that, absolutely anything goes!

The Winner will be awarded a Best of Prize honor and that my friend, you can submit to other film festivals and eventually shop around to Hollywood…
Thesis Film Category
Calling all Thesis Filmmakers! Ok, so what have you done lately with that thesis film of yours?

Have you got a thesis film we should see?

Where has it screened? If it hasn’t screened in Toronto, Canada OR the Province of Ontario, we may be interested in seeing it.

The Thesis Film Category was introduced in 2009.

Your thesis film MUST have Production Values, i.e. Crisp Focus, Clean Audio and a STORY. This category also includes cinéma vérité.

The criterion for getting in the category is fairly simple. We ask that you DO NOT SUBMIT ANY unauthorized clips from television shows, films, books, magazines and music videos.

We also ask that you DO NOT SUBMIT thesis films containing defamation, harassment, commercial advertisements and material encouraging criminal conduct.

Your thesis film has to be all original with only "fair use" of material (i.e. music, an image, a quote).

Narrative, Animation, Documentary, Experimental, Underground - This category is wide open. Whatever you made as your thesis film, it’s eligible in this category.

You’ll need to write a brief intro letter that gives us details about you, your school program, the year you graduated (even if it was in the 1940s), the mark you got (high or low doesn’t matter it’s the content we’re interested in), and what you’ve done since making your thesis film.

If you haven’t made it to a film festival yet, why not make it one with ReelHeART…
ReelHeART Off The Shelf Category
ReelHeART “Off The Shelf” Category was introduced in 2008 for films of all genres that never saw the light of day, or never reached an audience shortly after the film was completed. Your film has to be MORE THAN 5 YEARS OLD to be eligible-

Over the past 12 seasons, ReelHeART has been impressed with the number of films we come across during our research that are quality films but we’ve never heard of before.

If your film passes our criterion for all of our other categories, we’ll put it thought the same screening and scoring process as our other submissions.

If your film is over 5 years old and you’d like to see how it matches up to its contemporaries, we urge you to submit your film today.

In 2011, our Winner of the "Off The Shelf" Competition, also won "BEST VENUE".

MISSION & OBJECTIVE

Original. International. Indie. Anti-Niche!

ReelHeART International Film Festival is worldwide independent film festival held every June in Toronto, Canada.

In 2004 our founder had a vision that a new film festival could be formed to fill the void created by the growing trend of 'niche' festivals.

After placing a Director as second in command, the shape and focus of ReelHeART became a reality and to this day constantly evolves to refine its mandate to put the spotlight on only the best in independent filmmaking from around the world.

Our niche is NO niche. We believe in all Cultures under one Roof. It's the same with our Films, Documentaries and Screenplays. We believe in cultural exchange of ideas and creative expression without borders and labels.

ReelHeART accepts films and documentaries of all genres, countries and film lengths. There are 14 Categories of Competition. Two of those categories are our Short Screenplay and Feature Screenplay Competition. Top Film Prize is the "Founder's Award" ('Best of the Fest').

ReelHeART is dedicated to supporting the need for exposure for ALL LEVELS of independent filmmakers around the world. We put emerging and student artists alongside established and master filmmakers in an effort that all filmmakers can be recognized for their art, rather than their credits.

We also have a goal to satisfy and challenge the interests of filmgoers and film supporters, to encourage, reward and celebrate the "Real HeART" of Independent Film and New Media.

Whether filmmaker, screenwriter, reviewer, media or industry professional, the welcome and networking opportunities you experience at ReelHeART will be talked about from one year to the next!

ABOUT THE FESTIVAL

ReelHeART International Film And Screenplay Festival (ReelHeART) is for Films, Documentaries as well as Short and Feature Screenplays with Real Guts and 'Real Heart'.

We celebrate the Original. International. Independent and Non-Niche Voice of Independent Filmmakers and Screenwriters Worldwide.

Regardless of Genre, it's the story we're interested in.

Any Genre is accepted at ReelHeART: Feature and Short Narratives, Drama, Comedy, Black Comedy, Sci-Fi, Fantasy, Film Noir, Satire, Mockumentary, Animation, Experimental, Music Videos, as well as Feature and Short Documentary, Profiles, Underground and more.

Screenwriters, we haven’t forgotten about you. Did you know that ReelHeART was the first Screenwriting Competition in the world that offered a Rehearsed Cast-to-Type Live Read for its Top 3 Feature Script Winners? Now we do that for our Top 3 Short Screenplay Winners too.

Also, unlike many other Screenwriting Competitions, we do NOT charge extra for Feedback.

Amazing things have happened to a large number of our Top 3 Winners: Agent representation, Options at big Hollywood studios like CAA, Paramount, and Disney. One of our writers even became a jury member for the Golden Globes. Pretty cool huh?

Never entered a film festival before? ReelHeART should be your first film festival stop. Filmmaker's call us the "Filmmaker's Film Festival". Audiences refer to us as the "Cool Film Festival". Industry pros affectionately refer to us as "The Filmmaker's Bootcamp" as the only film festival that shows all levels of filmmakers 'the complete indie package' on how to hit the ground running with promotion, marketing, networking and how to garner distribution and sales interest..

The experience you gain at ReelHeART, the networking opportunities and the welcome you'll receive are among our priorities and quite possibly one of the top film festival experiences you'll ever have-
