Feature Length Fiction
Fiction deals, in part or in whole, with information or events that are not real, but rather, imaginary and theoretical - that is, invented by the author. Although fiction is commonly viewed as a form of entertainment, it may also be used for instructional purposes, propaganda or advertising, or speculation and thought experiments (science and/or philosophical fiction).
Feature Length Non-Fiction
Non-fiction is a work based on real life facts and information. The assertions and descriptions contained in a non-fiction work are believed by the creator of the work to be factual. These assertions and descriptions may or may not be accurate, and can give either a true or a false account of the subject in question; however, it is generally assumed that authors of such accounts believe them to be truthful at the time of their composition or, at least pose them to their audience as historically or empirically true.

The mission of the Poppy Jasper International Film Festival is to showcase emerging independent films. This will be accomplished by offering the filmmakers public screenings, exposure to industry professionals, and the opportunity to further their skills. The film festival will strive for an intimate setting in which audiences can interact with filmmakers and view films they would not otherwise see.

The 2016 Poppy Jasper Film International Film Festival is our 12th annual gathering of film makers and film fans in the bucolic southern reaches of Silicon Valley.

The Poppy Jasper Film Festival continues to celebrate and support the best and brightest of new and upcoming film makers from around the world, along with the film fans who want to see the film makers’ latest and greatest works. This year, while the Granada Theater undergoes extensive renovation, the festival will be hosted in the facilities of Gavilan Community College – our local institution of higher learning, centered in Gilroy, CA. (itself renowned as the Garlic Capital of the World). The festival will occur in April of 2016, and will continue to include feature-length films as well as the entertaining and innovative short films that were our focus during the first 10 years of the festival.

The Poppy Jasper International Film Festival is a project, under the auspices of Poppy Jasper, Inc., a tax exempt 501 (c) (3) Public Benefit Corporation, dedicated to giving filmmakers of all films a venue to showcase their work, participate in workshops, network with fellow filmmakers, and share artistic expression with other creative individuals who seek to express their talent in the form of moving images.

Morgan Hill is a charming, quaint town located in southern Santa Clara Valley, approximately 12 miles south of San Jose, and 15 miles inland from the Pacific Coast. Surrounded by the Santa Cruz and the Diablo mountain ranges, Morgan Hill is home to many fine wineries and restaurants, scenic vistas, and lovely hiking trails, as well as the semi-precious stone, poppy jasper, from which the festival's name is derived.

Poppy Jasper is a world-renowned, semi-precious gemstone characterized by red and "poppy-yellow" circles (orbs) on a field of white and/or black. Poppy Jasper is unique to Morgan Hill with The Smithsonian Institute in Washington DC listing the "type locality" for Poppy Jasper as Morgan Hill, California.
