MISSION & OBJECTIVE
NEWFILMMAKERS screens every week at Anthology Film Archives, one of the leading theaters in New York City. We divide the year into four seasons and recently added multi day Festivals to begin each season.
We are the longest running screening series in New York City. Our unique national series gives filmmakers the opportunity to screen their work for local audiences and to promote themselves to national distributors.
We look for films by promising new directors and established ones overlooked by other festivals. Many directors have started their careers with us.
We also program the Soho Screening Series at the Soho House in the Meatpacking District of New York City. This Series restricted to Soho House members and guests and screens British and American films submitted to NewFilmmakers.
ABOUT THE FESTIVAL
THE NEWFILMMAKERS SERIES was started in 1998 at Anthology Film Archives as a local screening series. Over the past sixteen years NewFilmmakers has attracted national and international attention and has screened over 1000 feature and 4000 shorts films.
In 2000 NewFilmmakers brought the Havana Film Festival to New York, where it now is in its thirteenth year, and in 2002 we started NewFilmmakers Los Angeles. Many well known Shorts and Features have had their early screenings at NewFilmmakers; these include Blair Witch, Too Much Sleep, and Zero Day.
We have begun a new series, YoungFilmmakers, in association with the Copyright Alliance. The new Series will give high school and college filmmakers the opportunity to screen their films in New York and Los Angeles.
Anthology Film Archives is located at 32 Second Avenue @ 2nd Street on the Lower East Side in New York City. NewFilmmakers LA screens monthly at the ATT Center and now has its own submission site on Withoutabox (www.withoutabox/login/7005).
We started NewFilmmakers Online, the first screening series online. The site now allows filmmakers to distribute their films and earn income. Audiences can see films online, download to their ipods, or burn onto a DVD. The site also allows audiences to interact with filmmakers and with each other. There is more information at www.newfilmmakersonline.com.
IMPORTANT: NewFilmmakers NY usually screens every Wednesday night year round in New York City. FESTIVAL DATES displayed on the Withoutabox listing are for expiration of this listing and ARE NOT our actual screening dates.
We program on a quarterly basis so our notification dates are approximate ONLY. If you are not selected for the current season, your submission will be rolled over to the next season; you should not resubmit your work. You may hear from us sooner or later. Feel free to email us anytime if you would like to know the status of your film.
