MISSION & OBJECTIVE

ABOUT THE FESTIVAL

In 2014, NXNE rolls out the 14th year of a tightly curated boutique film program to run alongside one of the world's premier music festivals. Over 10 days in June, NXNE will screen 30 of the year's best new films, while showcasing 1000 music performers, 200 comedians, visual art and a interactive digital media conference. NXNE is a feast for fans, a must-do for artists, and a vital gathering for international industry execs.

ABOUT THE FESTIVAL

Last year, NXNE hit new levels in attendance and international media coverage. With 350,000 attendees, the festival’s impact was larger than ever – including three nights of a complete closure of Yonge Street for the biggest free concerts ever seen in Toronto. Now, in its 20th year overall, NXNE is more important than ever for anyone looking to reach thousands of new fans, meet key industry, and take their careers to the next level.

NXNE Film screens new films in all genres: features, docs, shorts, and experimental works, partnering with the internationally recognized Bloor Hot Docs Cinema to tap into Toronto’s extensive film community. NXNE Film has screened works by Don Letts, Guy Maddin, Gorman Bechard, Rob Heydon, and Stewart Copeland of The Police. Films that have screened at NXNE in the past include Irvine Welsh's Ecstasy; Johnny Cash at Folsom Prison; The Rocker; The Last Pogo; Searching for Col. Parker; the Kurt Cobain biopic About a Son; and the Canadian premieres of Everyone Stares: The Police Inside Out, and Rock it to Rio. 2013's gala presentations were Mistaken For Strangers, Tom Berninger's documentary on The National, and BB King - The Life of Riley.

NXNE comprises four separate additional streams besides Film. NXNE Music is an essential destination for emerging artists, many of whom have played NXNE on their way to major worldwide breakthroughs. Alumni include The National, Ludacris, The Flaming Lips, Raekwon, Ghostface Killah, Iggy and The Stooges, DEVO, Fucked Up, De La Soul, Bad Religion, Grimes, Cults, METZ, and thousands more. NXNE Comedy attracts the edgiest talent in standup, sketch, improv, and more, presenting 200 of the freshest voices in comedy from across the globe. Alumni include Debra DiGiovanni, Scott Thompson, Big Jay Oakerson, Dylan Moran, and Donell Rawlings. NXNE Interactive brings together digital creators, tech entrepreneurs, and new media aficionados, from bloggers and web designers to anyone interested in maximizing productivity and enjoyment of digital technology and social media.
