One of the worlds leading genre film festivals focusing solely on Horror, Science Fiction, and Thillers. Each year the NYCHFF celebrates both the horror classics we grew up with and the new horror films & filmmakers who create them.
Each year the NYCHFF fills the city with special screenings, parties, celebrity guests and free giveaways. The New York City Horror Film Festival is an event not to be missed. We have found that the independent film community nationwide, be it festivals, film websites, or even some of the most popular indie magazines, tend to shy away from these genre films, which is really a shame. Our philosophy is that the horror film is as important as any genre. In fact, many great Hollywood directors started out making low budget horror films.
Some of the most influential filmmakers in this category include: Francis Ford Coppola (The Godfather), Oliver Stone (Platoon), Sam Raimi (Spiderman), Peter Jackson (Lord of the Rings) and Wes Craven (Scream). We feel that the horror film may just be more important for the future of film making than any other genre out there!

Established by MooDude Films CEO / Producer / Director / Michael J. Hein in 2001. The NYCHFF is a week long event that takes place each November at venues throughout New York City. The NYCHFF has grown to be a world recognized event, with industry, filmmakers, and press attention from around the globe. The Hein Family is committed to keeping the festival alive in memory of the truly missed and loved founder Michael J Hein.
The festival is competitive, screening approximately 50-60 films each year.

Each year, the NYCHFF honors one of the genres best, with it's Lifetime Achievement Award. Past recipients include George Romero, Roger Corman, Tobe Hooper, Mick Garris, Tom Savini, and Herschel Gordon Lewis, Frank Henlotter, Bill Lustig,Robert Englund , Wes Craven,Stuart Gordon,Lloyd Kaufman
