MISSION & OBJECTIVE
The Urbanworld Film Festival (UWFF) is an initiative delivered by the Urbanworld Foundation, a nonprofit organization dedicated to redefining the role of multicultural constituents in contemporary cinema by implementing programs and events that support the development and success of the urban filmmaking community.

ABOUT THE FESTIVAL
Urbanworld Film Festival, presented by BET Networks, was launched in August 1997 by founder Stacy Spikes, a former executive at Miramax and October Films. Over the past 16 years, Urbanworld has presented over 1000 features, shorts and documentaries, with estimated attendance reaching 30,000. Now in its 16th year, Urbanworld is one of the largest internationally competitive festivals of its kind.

The four-day event will feature studio premieres, independent film
screenings, panels, screenplay readings, talent spotlights, and an
awards brunch honoring the festival winners.

During its tenure, the festival has screened more than 1,000 urban-themed independent films and has been a launch pad for a host of major breakout studio and indie films such as I Will Follow, Night Catches Us, Law Abiding Citizen, Good Hair, The Secret Life of Bees, Half Nelson, Collateral, Hustle and Flow, Hero, Soul Food, Rush Hour 2, and Barbershop, and has also attracted the industry's hottest stars on both sides of the camera, including Kerry Washington, Gerard Butler, Queen Latifah, Mariah Carey, Jamie Foxx, Anthony Mackie, Halle Berry, Ruby Dee and Tom Cruise, as well as Directors Malcolm Lee, Ava Duvernay and Distributor Bob Berney.

Urbanworld is the destination for high quality urban content; industry execs will not find this breadth and consistent quality at mainstream
festivals, as urban selections are sparse on the festival circuit and
not always representative of the diverse stories shared by urban
filmmakers.
