MISSION & OBJECTIVE
Located at the American Film Institute's legendary AFI Silver Theatre, the Spooky Movie International Horror Film Festival's central objective is to spotlight on the Big Screen new, innovative, independent and international horror, science fiction, underground and cult works for our local audiences. Since 2006 Spooky Movie has challenged and entertained our audience by celebrating all the things that go bump in the night, while advocating the shared experience of enjoying film in a theatrical setting.

Debuting in October 2006, Spooky Movie is Washington, D.C.'s international horror film festival - and much more. Priding ourselves for advocating underground cinema from true independent visions, we have screened horror, suspense, animation, foreign language, science-fiction, documentaries, experimental and animation. From creepy kids, to cannibal women; from "torture porn" to Mexican masked wrestlers; from grindhouse to extreme Asian cinema; from the epic to the sublime; from zombies to the perverts, we are always looking to challenge and entertain our diverse audience by celebrating the things that go bump in the night!

2018 GUIDELINES FOR FILMS
FILMS (SHORTS AND FEATURES):
o Feature and short film entries must be submitted through a secure online screener or on DVD.
o We consider any work longer than 45 minutes to be a "feature."
o Foreign language work must be dubbed or subtitled in English.
o In addition to your entry, please enclose any press kits, reviews, or publicity materials.
o Eligible features, videos, shorts and documentaries must have been completed after January 1, 2016.

FEATURES, SHORT FILMS AND TRAILERS:

o Cost of shipping exhibition prints to the festival is the responsibility of the entrant.
o Exhibition copies must be sent to the festival prepaid.
o The festival does not accept responsibility for damage or loss of materials while in transit.
o Please use only plastic or bubble pack cases when shipping entries.
SUBMISSION WAIVERS - PLEASE READ!
Filmmakers may always request a waiver, however is is VERY rare where we will waive a submission fee. Two exceptions:
o Film Festival alumni (directors whose work previously screened at Spooky Movie) are always eligible for their new films from
o Films produced in Washington, D.C., Northern Virginia or the Maryland suburbs of Washington may request a waiver only if the screening at Spooky Movie would be a World Premiere ("cast and crew" screenings would disqualify it from this).
SELECTION AND NOTIFICATION AND INFORMATION
o Enclose a stamped, self addressed postcard if you want confirmation that your entry has been received.
o Programming decisions are made by the festival directors and selection committee.
o Film projects not chosen may still be selected for additional screenings at a later date.
o ONLY filmmakers selected will be notified by email, however all who use Withoutabox will receive automated notification.
o If accepted, the presentational format will need to be in our office by September 2, 2018.
o The festival DOES NOT pay rental fees for submitted work that is programmed.
o Be sure to indicate aspect ratio of your film/video and all special screening/presentation information.
o Eligible Films will be available for additional public screenings in advertising of the festival, including commercials, cable television, the internet and special promotional events.
o Mid-Atlantic Film and Television Group is not responsible for any materials lost, stolen or damaged in transit.
TERMS AND CONDITIONS
This Agreement shall be governed by and construed in accordance with the laws of the State of Virginia without regard to the choice of law principles. This Agreement is entered into in Virginia, and any action brought to enforce the terms of this Agreement shall be brought in a court of competent jurisdiction in Virginia
By submitting this film, video, or screenplay you state that you are authorized to submit this film/video or trailerto The Spooky Movie Film Festival for consideration and you have read and understand and agree to all the entry requirements. By submitting this film or video hereby release the Festival from all liability resulting from its exhibition.
NEITHER PARTY SHALL OWE ANY LIABILITY TO THE OTHER PARTY ARISING UNDER THIS AGREEMENT FOR ANY INDIRECT, SPECIAL, PUNITIVE OR CONSEQUENTIAL DAMAGES, INCLUDING, WITHOUT LIMITATION, LOSS OF PROFIT OR BUSINESS OPPORTUNITIES. EXCEPT AS EXPRESSLY SET FORTH HEREIN.
NEITHER PARTY MAKES ANY (AND EACH PARTY HEREBY SPECIFICALLY DISCLAIMS) ANY, REPRESENTATIONS OR WARRANTIES, EXPRESS OR IMPLIED, REGARDING THE SERVICES CONTEMPLATED BY THIS AGREEMENT, INCLUDING ANY IMPLIED WARRANTY OF MERCHANTABILITY OR FITNESS FOR A PARTICULAR PURPOSE, IMPLIED WARRANTIES ARISING FROM A COURSE OF DEALING OR COURSE OF PERFORMANCE OR ANY WARRANTIES RELATING TO TITLE OR NON-INFRINGEMENT OF INTELLECTUAL PROPERTY.
NEITHER PARTY MAKES ANY REPRESENTATION, WARRANTY OR ASSURANCE CONCERNING ANY MINIMUM OR MAXIMUM NUMBER OF PATRONS LIKELY TO ATTEND THE FESTIVAL.
EXCEPT FOR PAYMENTS DUE COLLECTED BY SPOOKY MOVIE FILM FESTIVAL AND PAYABLE TO THE FESTIVAL, TSMFF'S LIABILITY FOR ANY DAMAGES CAUSED TO YOU AS A RESULT OF PERFORMANCE OR NON-PERFORMANCE UNDER THIS AGREEMENT SHALL BE LIMITED IN ALL CIRCUMSTANCES.
