MISSION & OBJECTIVE
It is our sincere wish to provide a showcase for both veteran filmmakers and budding talent at home and abroad in a celebration of unique vision and creativity.

ABOUT THE FESTIVAL
This is the ninth consecutive year of the festival. We have showcased the films of incredibly talented filmmakers from around the world. We are continuing with our initial goal of becoming an Academy Award-qualifying festival in the future to provide an opportunity for our filmmakers to gain Oscar-qualified status through the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences. We wish every filmmaker a most glorious fruition of their vision.

We are expanding our event to include feature length films for the first time in addition to our beloved short film offerings.

In celebration of festival year number nine, we are joining in the year-long Nevada Sesquicentennial festivities, a 150th anniversary celebration of Nevada statehood. On October 31, 1864, President Abraham Lincoln signed the proclamation granting statehood to Nevada making it the 36th of the United States of America. To commemorate this event and to showcase the home state of the HDIFF, we have added a screenplay/short story competition. To qualify for submission, the written works must draw from historical or modern Nevada as a topic of a fictional work or a story drawn from real life events. Possible topics (suggestions only):

American Indian History
Spanish History
Territorial History
Statehood History
Old Spanish Trail
Pony Express
Early Mining
Gambling
Legal Prostitution
Nuclear Testing
Mobsters
Cattle Ranching
Farming
Railroads
Lake Tahoe
Reno
Las Vegas
Hoover Dam
War History (Civil War through the present-any war in between)
