Animations by Student Animators
Student Animators would be those who were a full time student when the animation was completed.

For this category, entries will be reviewed by a panel of professionals selected from the animation industry.

Student Animator's Award
Animations will be scored based on criteria such as artistic merit, story, and technical proficiency. The submissions will be ranked based on these scores, and a $100 cash prize will be awarded for the animation that scores the highest.

Critic's Choice Award
In addition to the awards above, a $200 Critic's Choice Award will be given to the animation that scores the highest overall in all festival categories. (Only one entry from all entries in the festival will receive the Critic's Choice Award).

Audience Choice Award
During the Festival itself, the audience will be given the opportunity to vote on their favorite animation. The animation that receives the most votes will be awarded a $100 cash prize for the People's Choice Award. (Only one entry from all entries in the festival will receive the People's Choice Award).

All entries will receive comments and scores from the judges and a copy of the judging metric sheet utilized.
Animations by Professional Animators
Professional Animators would be those who receive income on a regular basis for the their skills as in the production of animated shorts or features.

For this category, entries will be reviewed by a panel of professionals selected from the animation industry.

Professional Animator's Award
Animations will be scored based on criteria such as artistic merit, story, and technical proficiency. The submissions will be ranked based on these scores, and a $100 cash prize will be awarded for the animation that scores the highest.

Critic's Choice Award

Independent Animators would be those who do not receive income specifically for animation, nor qualify as a full time student when the animation was completed.

For this category, entries will be reviewed by a panel of professionals selected from the animation industry.

Independent Animator's Award
Animations will be scored based on criteria such as artistic merit, story, and technical proficiency. The submissions will be ranked based on these scores, and a $100 cash prize will be awarded for the animation that scores the highest.

MISSION & OBJECTIVE
Our mission is to showcase the best in short animations for the whole family, and especially for children. The Blue Plum Festival is a family friendly event with many attractions for the little ones.

ABOUT THE FESTIVAL
Held in the heart of Appalachia, Johnson City, Tennessee, the Blue Plum Animation Festival is an extension of the Blue Plum Arts Festival, a celebration of the arts with musicians, artists, and craftsmen from around the region. The festival draws an audience of more than 80,000 people for the weekend of festivities.

Johnson City is home to East Tennessee State University's Digital Media Program, offering degree programs in Digital Animation, Game Design and 3D Visualization.

GENERAL RULES
Your submission must be completely animated. We will not accept demo reels, samples, or works in progress. Your piece should be complete.

This festival is a family-oriented event and most of our animations would be given a "G" rating. We will accept animations with a "PG" rating at our discretion. If by chance, an animation is accepted that deserves a "PG-13" rating, it would only be aired during our evening show times. We will not accept animations that are excessively violent or obscene. If we decide not to accept your animation, you will be notified. If you have any doubts, please ask before submitting an entry

PLEASE NOTE: All submission fees are non-refundable

A) PREVIEW Copy
First upload a PREVIEW Copy or your animation using the Withoutabox Secure Online Screener tool. The festival committee will review this for acceptance. If we cannot preview your animation before the May 1st deadline, we may not be able to accept your entry.

NOTE: the Secure Online Screener tool is only the first step! Your animation is NOT ready for the festival unless you receive notification of acceptance. Then you MUST send us an EXHIBITION QUALITY Copy.

B) EXHIBITION QUALITY Copy
When you receive notification, then send the EXHIBITION QUALITY Copy of your animation entry to be received no later than the last day of May.

---> Maximum resolution is 1280×720 with a square pixel aspect ratio. We recommend using H.264 compression (Quicktime) or WMV3 (WMV).

---> Please ensure the file name is simple, beginning with your BPAF# and film title.

---> Preferred method is an electronic delivery service:

This method is easy and doesn’t require a password to send files.
1. Enter your email.
2. To whom are you sending a file? = hounshel@etsu.edu
3. Upload your movie file.
4. In the message window give us the title and your BPAF # of your film.
We will be then able to download your file through our password protected system.

If we do not receive your animation in time, we cannot showcase it during the festival.

If you must send it via "snail mail,"
Please Burn your EXHIBITION COPY as a file onto a data disk (DVD-ROM or CD-ROM). Either a .mov or .wmv file.
We will not accept entries that we cannot view, and we will not accept video formatted to automatically play as a standard DVD or VHS cassette.

TERMS AND CONDITIONS

PLEASE NOTE: All submission fees are non-refundable All entries must follow category rules as specified. Entries that do not meet the requirements and qualifications specified by each category will not be accepted by the festival. The Blue Plum Animation Festival will not return any materials sent in as part of an entry. Blue Plum Animation Festival is hereby granted the right to utilize an excerpt from any film submitted and accepted for exhibition at the Festival for promotional purposes. The individual or corporation submitting the film hereby warrants that it is authorized to commit the film for screening, and understands and accepts these requirements and regulations. The undersigned shall indemnify and hold harmless Blue Plum Animation Festival from and against any and all claims, liabilities, losses, damages, and expenses (including but not limited to attorney's fees, and costs of the court) which may be incurred by reason of any claim involving copyright, trademark, credits, publicity, screening, and loss of or damage to the screening videos entered.
