MISSION & OBJECTIVE
Welcome to Iowa's longest-running film festival—and one of the oldest in the Midwestern United States. Hardacre has screened films that also appeared at high-profile festivals such as Sundance and South by Southwest, but our priorities are not about big names or big budgets. Films at Hardacre, above all, challenge and entertain the audience, representing truly independent filmmaking.
Hardacre alumni repeatedly submit their new films to our festival because it's an organic experience that, while it won't get you a big-time distribution deal with a major studio, goes back to the core of motion pictures as an art form: public exhibition, subjective interpretation and personal discussion.
The historic Hardacre Theater in downtown Tipton is an Art Deco masterpiece that has been in constant use as a theater since 1917. It provides an intimate setting for 300 cinephiles to enjoy your film.
We'll make sure that you and your film are positioned to make the best possible impact on the audience, the media and the community at large. Our standing as Iowa's longest-running film festival ensures top media coverage in our market and across the region.
ABOUT THE FESTIVAL
The Hardacre Film Festival began in 1996 as a project straight from the hearts of film lovers local to the Tipton area in Cedar County, located in Eastern Iowa. The Tipton Chamber of Commerce became the chief sponsors of the festival in 2007. Learn more about Tipton by visiting www.tiptoniowa.us.
Selected films will be screened in the classic Art Deco-style Hardacre Theater. This beautiful, locally operated theater has been in operation since 1917 and continues to exhibit first-run films daily.
You can relax in air-conditioned comfort and enjoy our friendly, small town setting. There are no hassles or concerns from which most large urban festivals suffer.
The Hardacre Film Festival staff will strive to provide a casual and personal atmosphere throughout your visit. We will allow time for question-and-answer sessions following all of the film programs, as well as easy access to all of the attending filmmakers for our audience.
Trophies will be awarded to the winning films in each category.

Hardacre Guidelines and Procedures
Entry Fees: Fees are dependent on a film's length, if it is a student production and if certain deadlines are met. Take $5 off any submission fee if you're an Iowa filmmaker. Make check or money order payable to the Hardacre Film Festival. Fees may differ if submitting through Withoutabox.com. Entries must be postmarked by the stated date to qualify for that deadline. There is no limit to the number of entries. Entry fee is nonrefundable. The Festival Director reserves the right to grant fee waivers for special circumstances on a case-by-case basis.
Preview Copies: For jury selection purposes, TWO preview copies of your submitted film must be submitted on DVD (NTSC format only). Please make sure that DVD submissions will play back properly on a standard North American standalone DVD player. If you would like your preview copy returned, please include a self-addressed stamped mailing package. Preview disc may be duplicated by festival staff for judging purposes only.
Shipping: Films with self-addressed stamped mailing packages will be returned to sender via USPS by August 30 following the festival. If your 35mm print is screened, or if your film is to be sent to some other location, you must make arrangements for shipping IN ADVANCE with the Festival Director. If there is a need for a more immediate return, please arrange with the Festival Director. If the screening copy is to be forwarded to other sites or film festivals following the screening, the filmmaker will be responsible for any extra shipping charges. This reimbursement must be received in advance of shipping. While all entries are treated with the utmost care, festival staff is not responsible for loss or damage to prints, discs or tapes.
Deadlines & Formats: Deadline for all entries is June 1, 2013. Films selected for screening will be notified by July 6, 2013, with screening schedule and award winners announced shortly thereafter. Selected entries must have a 35mm print, DVCAM, MiniDV, Blu-Ray or DVD screening copy shipped to the Hardacre office by July 21, 2013. The filmmaker will be responsible for the shipping expense of sending their film to our office. We also request that a press kit accompany the screening copy. We will use this for festival programs, promotion and media outreach. Please note: foreign language films MUST have English subtitles or an English language audio track available.
Non-Winning Entries: If you are not notified by July 6, 2013 , it is safe to assume your work is not being shown. With the large number of entries we judge every year, it is very difficult to notify every entrant. Watch our website for the final screening schedule, or contact the Festival Director for more information.
Late Entries: Films may be accepted for late submission contingent on the number of entries already received and overall programming needs. To request a deadline extension, please contact the Festival Director.
