The Reel Sisters of the Diaspora Film Festival & Lecture Series is a three-day annual film festival organized by African Voices and Long Island University's Media Arts Dept., Brooklyn Campus.


ABOUT THE FESTIVAL
The Reel Sisters of the Diaspora Film Festival & Lecture Series is a three-day annual film festival organized by African Voices and Long Island University's Media Arts Dept., Brooklyn Campus. Established in 1997, Reel Sisters (www.reelsisters.org) is dedicated to providing opportunities for women of color filmmakers to advance their careers in the film industry. Reel Sisters is one of the first Brooklyn-based festivals to showcase films directed, produced and written by women of color. Reel Sisters screens original films by women across the globe each year -- the festival has screened over 200 films since its inception. Awards for Best Director, Best Documentary, Best Experimental, Best Animation, Best Feature, Best Short and the Reel Sisters Spirit Award are selected by an independent jury composed of filmmakers, community leaders and artists.

GENERAL RULES
TRANSLATION: Your film must be English dubbed or have English subtitles if it is in any other language.

To submit a film:

- Send ONE (1) NTSC or Region free DVD. Must be playable on ALL mediums, particularly DVD players of all kinds. Please check your DVDs to make sure they play on several different units. DVDs should be placed in bubble-pack envelope or plastic case to avoid damage. Please label DVD (inside and out) with title of the production, filmmaker’s name and address, phone number and category. This film will be returned only if you include a self-addressed and stamped large envelope (SASE).

- Attach a brief synopsis of the film and production stills with any additional promotional items. We accept photographs in all formats including JPEGs, TIFFs and EPS (electronic photos must be 300 dpi resolution e-mailed).

- Entries must be postmarked by the deadline.

If you submit your screener via Withoutabox.com, you are not required to send in a DVD unless we request it as a backup. You are required to send downloadable electronic files (.mpg, .mov, .avi, flv, mp4, etc.) if your film is accepted into the festival. Please send downloadable files via a Dropbox.com download link or Vimeo.com. Please password protect the film files when sending links. Also include a trailer. The trailer needs to be via Vimeo.com available for public viewing and sharing.

**Failure to deliver screening Print on time Forfeits any previous accepted invitation.

TERMS AND CONDITIONS

As deemed appropriate, accepted entries may be displayed and shown by Reel Sisters of the Diaspora Film Festival & Lecture Series. Reel Sisters of the Diaspora Film Festival & Lecture Series is hereby granted the right to utilize an excerpt from any film submitted and accepted for exhibition at the Festival for promotional purposes. The individual or corporation submitting the film hereby warrants that it is authorized to commit the film for screening, and understands and accepts these requirements and regulations. The undersigned shall indemnify and hold harmless Reel Sisters of the Diaspora Film Festival & Lecture Series from and against any and all claims, liabilities, losses, damages, and expenses (including but not limited to attorney's fees, and costs of the court) which may be incurred by reason of any claim involving copyright, trademark, credits, publicity, screening, and loss of or damage to the screening videos entered.
