Domestic Feature Films
NYILFF will consider films made by, featuring, about and/or for the Latino community.

Films cannot have been broadcast (television or Internet) or distributed commercially in the U.S. prior to the festival. All genres are welcome.
International Feature Films
NYILFF will consider films made by, featuring, about and/or for the Latino community. All films that are shot in Spanish must be submitted with English subtitles.

NYILFF Spectrum
NYILFF SPECTRUM is the festival’s first showcase to present films from across the world not strictly limited to the Latino perspective. The mission of SPECTRUM is to boldly embrace depictions of this broader, global urban experience, which shares in our own stories of struggle and triumph.

HBO has created The HBO CORTOS Competition Program to find the next hot Latino filmmaker. The HBO CORTOS competition provides one filmmaker with a completed short work, $10,000 and the opportunity for a broadcast premiere in 2014.

GENERAL RULES
NEW YORK INTERNATIONAL LATINO FILM FESTIVAL, ELIGIBILITY REQUIREMENTS:

We will consider films from North, Central and South America and the Caribbean made by, featuring, about and/or for the Latino community. We will consider all forms: feature narrative, short films, documentary and experimental shorts. All projects must have been completed by no earlier than 2010. Projects in a language other English must have English subtitles. Films cannot have been broadcast (television or Internet) or distributed commercially in the U.S. prior to the festival.

Exceptions are made for short films and documentaries. All genres are welcome.

The festival has no restrictions over premiere status, however more consideration is given to films with an NY Premiere.

Features in competition cannot be financed or produced by a major studio or specialty division of a major studio.

HBO / NYILFF SHORT FILM COMPETITION SUBMISSION FORM
ELIGIBILITY REQUIREMENTS-PLEASE READ CAREFULLY!

1. Script must have been written by a person of Latino decent OR focus on the Latino experience.
2. Entrant must be eighteen (18) years old or older.
3. Competition is open to U.S. and international filmmakers.
4. Script must be written in English language.
5. If screenplay is written in Spanish, it must be translated to English for judging purposes.
6. All entries must arrive at NYILFF office postmarked by June 10th 2011 deadline.
7. Screenplay must be original with Entrant, Entrant must own all rights to the screenplay and the screenplay may not be based upon any other work, unless all rights in such work are owned by Entrant. Screenplay and work produced in connection therewith must have had no previous television or internet exhibition, must not have won award(s) at any other festival and must not have been previously submitted to any HBO Short Film Competition.
8. Employees of Home Box Office, Inc. (HBO) and any other Time Warner entity (whether or not permanent or temporary employees) and their immediate family members and/or those living in the same household of each are not eligible to participate. Each entry must be submitted and received as follows:

* One completed submission form
* $20 submission fee
* Filmmaker bio
* A director’s reel OR last short film produced (All videos must be submitted via a YouTube or Vimeo link). Please include the link on your submission form.
* One (1) executed HBO / NYILFF Short Film Competition release form.

9. Entry title and name of entrant must be on all materials and containers.
10. There is no limit to the number of entries; each entry must comply with the requirements of number 7.
11. Applicants will be notified of the NYILFF’s decision by June 30th , 2011.
12. Any missing materials will automatically render the application incomplete.

JUDGING

A panel of industry professionals will judge the entries based on the following criteria: dialogue, characters, plot line, uniqueness, structure and overall tone. The Judges will select one finalist who will receive the grand prize of $15,000 to be used toward producing his/her film to be screened at the NYILFF.

PRIZES

Winner will receive $15,000 to be used to produce his/her film. NYILFF will provide round-trip travel and hotel accommodations for the winner (one person) and a guest during the 2011 NYILFF, such travel and hotel accommodations to be determined by NYILFF in its sole discretion.

IF YOUR SCREENPLAY IS SELECTED

1. The winning screenplay can be shot in Spanish if desired (Must be subtitled in English).
2. Filmmaker agrees that he/she will be solely responsible for the delivery of his/her film (including all shipping costs) to and from: NYILFF c/o HBO / NYILFF Short Film Competition, 419 Lafayette Street, New York, N.Y. 10003
3. Final film must be received by NYILFF on digital video (DVD or other high digital format) no later than July 29th 2011, and the final film must not exceed five (5) minutes in length.

I certify that the screenplay I am submitting (“Screenplay”) to the 2011 New York International Latino Film Festival (NYILFF)/HBO Short Film Competition (the “Competition”) is an original screenplay and that I hold all rights to the Screenplay necessary for the submission and that the Screenplay and I meet all of the eligibility requirements set forth on the NYILFF/HBO Short Film Competition Eligibility Requirements Form and the Submission Form. I acknowledge that other screenplays that are similar to the Screenplay or the ideas expressed in the Screenplay that I am submitting may be submitted by others to the Competition.

I further certify that no rights in the Screenplay have been transferred. I understand that I may not transfer any rights in the Screenplay prior to the selection of the Finalist Screenplays and, if my Screenplay is selected as a Finalist Screenplay, not prior to the License Period set forth below, without the written consent of Home Box Office, Inc. ("HBO"). I further understand that if the Screenplay is selected as one of the Finalist Screenplays, I will diligently produce and deliver a completed original film based on my Screenplay not to exceed five (5) minutes in length (a “Final Film”) and shall obtain all underlying rights, licenses, clearances or permissions, including music rights, necessary for the anticipated exhibition of the Final Film. In consideration for mutual promises and other good and valuable consideration, including the award of a monetary prize, and consideration for exhibition at the Festivals and on an HBO programming service, I will not negotiate with any party with respect to any rights in the Screenplay prior to August 31, 2011.

I hereby authorize HBO and the NYILFF to exhibit the Final Film at the 2011 NYILFF and/or any HBO programming service for a one (1) year period commencing August 31, 2011 (“License Period”) and to use the publicity information and photos submitted by me or on my behalf in their marketing and publicity efforts in connection with the NYILFF at any time after announcement of the Finalist Screenplay winner. I further authorize the use of clips from the Finalist Film in any and all media for informational advertising and promotional purposes.

I UNDERSTAND THAT EXCEPT AS PROVIDED FOR UNDER THE ELIGIBILITY REQUIREMENTS AND REGULATIONS OF THE HBO SHORT FILM COMPETITION, NEITHER HBO, THE NEW YORK INTERNATIONAL LATINO FILM FESTIVAL NOR ANY OTHER PARTY SHALL BE UNDER ANY OBLIGATION TO COMPENSATE OR CREDIT ME IN ANY WAY FOR THE USE OF THE FINAL FILM OR TO EXHIBIT THE FINAL FILM AND I HEREBY IRREVOCABLY RELEASE AND DISCHARGE HBO, THE FESTIVALS AND THEIR RESPECTIVE LICENSEES, SUCCESSORS AND ASSIGNS FROM ANY CLAIMS WHICH I NOW HAVE OR MAY EVER HAVE FROM OR RELATING TO ANY USE OF THE FILM.

Liability NYILFF assumes responsibility for the care of all prints it receives. In the event of loss or damage to any print, NYILFF’s liability will be limited to the cost of making a new print.
