Documentary
Submissions for the Documentary category can be documentaries on any subject matter that range from shorts to features. Please note there is a specific submission category for Southern and Music focused documentaries.

Official selection Documentary films are eligible to win a 'Best in Show' award ($1500.00), 'Best of Documentary' category award ($1000.00), and 'Documentary Audience Choice' award ($500.00).
Southern
Submissions for the Southern category can be narrative or documentary films on any subject matter showcasing the American South that range from shorts to features.

Official selection Southern films are eligible to win a 'Best in Show' award ($1500.00), 'Best of Southern' category award ($1200.00), 'Narrative Feature Audience Choice' award ($500.00), 'Narrative Short Audience Choice' award ($500.00), and 'Documentary Audience Choice' award ($500.00).


Please note there is a specific submission category for Music focused films.

Music
Submissions for the Music category can be narrative or documentary films on any music subject matter that range from shorts to features.

Official selection Music films are eligible to win a 'Best in Show' award ($1500.00), 'Best of Music' category award ($1200.00), 'Narrative Feature Audience Choice' award ($500.00), 'Narrative Short Audience Choice' award ($500.00), and 'Documentary Audience Choice' award ($500.00).

Please note there is a specific submission category for Southern focused films.

Student - Shorts
Submissions for the Student Shorts category can be films on any subject matter from any film genre that range from 5 minutes to 45 minutes in length.

Please note that student filmmakers must provide a valid student id at the time of submission. Student ids can be uploaded to the FilmFreeway press kit or e-mailed directly to the festival’s screenings and submissions committee at maconfilmfestival.wab@gmail.com.

Official selection Student Short films are eligible to win a 'Best in Show' award ($1500.00), 'Best of Student Shorts' category award ($800.00), and 'Narrative Shorts Audience Choice' award ($500.00).
Narrative - Feature
Submissions for the Narrative - Feature category can be narrative films on any subject matter that are longer then 45 minutes length. Entries shorter then 45 minutes will need to be submitted through the Narrative - Shorts category. Please note there is a specific submission category for Southern and Music focused narrative features.

Narrative - Short
Submissions for the Narrative - Shorts category can be narrative films on any subject matter that range from 5 minutes to 45 minutes in length. Entries longer then 45 minutes will need to be submitted through the Narrative - Features category. Submissions for the LGBT category can be narrative or documentary films that range from shorts to features.

MISSION & OBJECTIVE

Surrounded by a rich musical and southern culture the Macon Film Festival celebrates independent films while promoting filmmaking for entertainment, inspiration education, and economic development.

A true filmmaker focused event the festival works to introduce visiting filmmakers and guests to the Central Georgia community, and to promote film production throughout the region. The Macon Film Festival is open to filmmakers working in all media, genres, and themes.


ABOUT THE FESTIVAL

Surrounded by a rich musical and southern culture, the Macon Film Festival celebrates independent films while promoting filmmaking for entertainment, inspiration, education, and economic development.

After another record-breaking year in 2016, the Macon Film Festival is heading into its 12th year with a four-day festival planned for July 20th - 23rd. The Macon Film Festival screens independent films from around the world in multiple historic theaters in the city's downtown district. The festival features film screenings, celebrity guests, special screenings, and workshops throughout the festival weekend.

The 2017 call for submissions will open August 17th t and will run through early March 9, 2017.

GENERAL RULES

Submission Rules

1. Submission Formats: Password protected online screeners must be embedded in each film's Withoutabox submission profile. DVD submissions, download links, or stand-alone links will not be accepted.

Only completed entry packets will be processed and considered for festival presentation. A complete entry packet includes:

-- An online screener embedded in the Withoutabox submission. Passwords are encouraged.
-- Completed submission online form (Macon Film Festival is not responsible for incorrect wording in publications or on awards if the entry form is incorrect or illegible.)
-- Submission fee (made payable to Macon Film Festival)
-- Digital Press kit (2 Hi-Resolution JPEG stills from the film.)
-- Brief film synopsis
-- Just to repeat, DVD submissions will not be accepted.

2. Each entry must be a separate submission. If you select more than one film category for your film you must pay the full entry fee for each category.

3. Student films must include a copy of a current student ID or proof of current enrollment. Copies of student ids can be e-mailed to maconfilmfestival.wab@gmail.com.

4. Complete submission packets must be postmarked by deadline dates below.

-- Early Deadline - September 20, 2016
-- Regular Deadline - January 9, 2017
-- Late Deadline - February 9, 2017
-- Extended Deadline - March 9, 2017

5. Works in progress are not encouraged. Submissions will be jurored in the state they are received.

6. To qualify for the 2017 Macon Film Festival submissions must have been completed after May 31, 2015. Submissions completed prior to May 31, 2015 will not be accepted.

7. All official selection films selected to be in competition for the 2017 festival will not be eligible to receive screening fees.

8. If your film is selected as an official submission the cost of shipping hard copies of festival screeners to the Festival must be paid by the entrant. Collect or COD shipments will not be accepted.

9. All international entries must be sent with all transportation charges, duties, and taxes prepaid by the shipper. Fees charged to the Macon Film Festival will be refused. Be sure to include the proper customs documentation required by your shipping service.

10. Official selection screeners will NOT be returned unless the submission filmmaker provides a self addressed stamped envelope. No exceptions.

11. Entrant confirms and warrants required legal authority to submit the entry into the Festival and to use all music, images and content in the entry. Entrant will allow usage of clips from the entry for promotional use on television, radio, in print, and at live Festival events.

12. By submitting the filmmaker confirms that they are duly authorized to submit the film to the Macon Film Festival (MaGa) without the consent of any third party (or, if the consent of other parties is required, all of them are also signing this Agreement)

13. By submitting the filmmaker confirms and warrants required legal authority to submit the entry into the Festival. The film does not violate any copyright, trademark or other intellectual property right of any person or entity. Releases for music, images, content and talent must be obtained by the filmmaker. MaGa is not liable for copyright infringement or unauthorized use.



TERMS AND CONDITIONS

I am duly authorized to submit this film to the Macon Film Festival without the consent of any third party (or, if the consent of other parties is required, all of them are also signing this Agreement)

I confirm and warrant required legal authority to submit the entry into the Festival. The film does not violate any copyright, trademark or other intellectual property right of any person or entity. Releases for music, images, content and talent must be obtained by the filmmaker. The Macon Film Festival is not liable for copyright infringement or unauthorized use.

The film is not the subject of litigation or any claim that might give rise to litigation.

I will allow usage of clips from the entry for promotional use on television, radio, in print, and at live Festival events.

I understand and agree that all information received on the application may be utilized in the program guide and the website.

I understand and agree that the number of screenings, days and venue (if any) is at the sole discretion of the Macon Film Festival.

Every reasonable effort will be made to exhibit the submission in format of filmmaker's choice, but format exhibition is subject to availability of theatre equipment and is at discretion of festival board.

All entries must be either in English or contain English subtitles.

I agree that all materials will be sent prepaid and understand and agree that neither fees, submission videos nor any other materials will be returned whether or not my film is accepted.

If my film is accepted, the Macon Film Festival agrees to pay shipping costs only for the one-way return shipment of a film print or DCP package when leaving Macon after its last festival screening. Entries submitted on DVD will NOT be returned unless the filmmaker provides pre-paid shipping packaging.

Every reasonable effort will be made to protect films and tapes from damage or loss, but the Macon Film Festival, its management, or its venues cannot assume liability for damage or loss.

I understand and agree that acceptance of my film does not guarantee airline or hotel accommodations for talent, production crew, or any other parties.

The film is not currently subject to, and will not in the future become subject to, other obligations that would prevent it from being exhibited at the Macon Film Festival (provided that it is accepted into the Macon Film Festival).

I have carefully read and understood and will comply with all rules, regulations and eligibility requirements of the Macon Film Festival, all of which are incorporated herein by reference.
