MISSION & OBJECTIVE
The DisOrient Asian American Film Festival of Oregon is a community, grassroots, and volunteer-run film festival committed to presenting honest portrayals of the diversity of Asian American experiences. We believe in the power of film to educate, positively transform our community, and challenge the negative stereotypes of the 'Oriental' presented by mainstream media. We use the W.E.B. DuBois standard of "for us, by us, or about us" when selecting new and exciting films for our festival.


ABOUT THE FESTIVAL
The DisOrient Asian American Film Festival of Oregon is a community, grassroots, and volunteer-run film festival committed to presenting honest portrayals of the diversity of Asian American experiences. We believe in the power of film to educate, positively transform our community, and challenge the negative stereotypes of the 'Oriental' presented by mainstream media. We use the W.E.B. DuBois standard of "for us, by us, or about us" when selecting new and exciting films for our festival.

DisOrient is a program of the Chinese American Benevolent Association (CABA), a 501(c)(3) non-profit cultural arts organization that also runs youth groups such as the Chinese Lion Dance Troupe which is comprised of middle school, high school, and college age students. CABA also offers college scholarships for local Asian American youth and aspiring filmmakers.

CALL FOR ENTRIES

SUBMISSION GUIDELINES
• To be considered for competition, entries must have completed production within two years of the late submission deadline.
• Entries must have either a principal (writer, producer, director, main actor) that identifies as Asian/Pacific Islander –or- be about an Asian/Pacific Islander experience or subject –or- be made with Asian/Pacific Islander Americans as the target audience. (“For us, by us, or about us”)
• Films and videos with educational and socially conscious messages dealing with Asian/Pacific Americans are highly to submit.

WHAT TO INCLUDE IN YOUR ENTRY
1. Entry Deadlines & Fees:
• EARLY DEADLINE: Postmarked by November 30, 2013 ($35 U.S.)
• LATE DEADLINE: Postmarked by December 16, 2013 ($45 U.S.)
• Please make checks or M.O. payable to “C.A.B.A.”
• Entry Fees waived for Northwest filmmakers before early deadline.
• NOTE: The festival does NOT pay rental or appearance fees.

2. Include two (2) screeners (DVD NTSC format viewable on a region 1 standalone player. Screener will NOT be returned & cannot be used for exhibition.)

3. Electronic Press Kit Packet & Materials uploaded to Withoutabox or on CD-R or DVD-R
• Print quality still images and poster art (at least 300 dpi) - required!
• Synopsis (long and short versions)
• Director’s biography & photo
• List of cast and crew, awards, and festival appearances
• Theatrical trailer (in full quality DV or QuickTime format)

4. A self-addressed stamped postcard
(optional for confirmation of entry)

In addition, you agree that the DisOrient Film Festival and CABA are not liable for any loss or damage to screeners or exhibition prints and cannot be held financially responsible for any other damages. Submitted preview materials will not be returned. You also agree to allow use of stills, audio, and video clips from the submitted work for promotional purposes. Your signature also certifies that you have received all appropriate copyright clearances and assumes full liability for any and all copyright infringement.
