MISSION & OBJECTIVE

DisOrient Asian American Film Festival promotes the diversity of Asian American and Pacific Islander experiences. We break open the one-dimensional stereotypes of the “Oriental” in mainstream media. Through film we bring power to our voice and experience; we strengthen the AAPI community and advocate for social justice in all communities.

ABOUT THE FESTIVAL

DisOrient is the premiere Asian American film festival in Oregon. For 13 years, we have presented the rich diversity of Asian American and Pacific Islander stories. We use the W.E.B. DuBois standard "for us, by us, or about us" when selecting films for our program, and we particularly encourage social justice topics.

DisOrient believes in the power of film to educate and positively transform our communities and the world. Our film program and Q&A’s bring significant exposure to filmmakers and serve as a launching point for understanding, inquiry and action. There is a growing demand to showcase the work of AAPI filmmakers and actors--DisOrient provides a platform to celebrate and support their artistry.

With the spectacular Willamette River rushing through town and the Cascade Range to our east, Eugene basks in its natural setting. Home of the University of Oregon and nicknamed Tracktown, USA, Eugene celebrates the arts and intellectual curiosity with earthy hospitality and light-hearted quirkiness. Come see why many filmmakers rave about DisOrient and call it their favorite film festival!
