The South Dakota Film Festival is a fantastic festival in a small town on the prairie, offering a filmmaker friendly environment with a casual vibe.

This little festival has been host to some big Hollywood names - Oscar Winner Kevin Costner ("Dances with Wolves"), Oscar Nominated Graham Greene ("Thunderheart, Dances with Wolves"), Oscar Nominated Adam Greenberg A.S.C ( "Terminator 2").

Come for the films stay for the after parties.

The South Dakota Film Festival is the premier film festival in South Dakota and the region.

In recent years the festival has been host to special guests, Kevin Costner (actor), Graham Greene (actor), Adam Greenberg (cinematographer) Kyle Eastwood (composer), Irene Bedard (actress), Rene Haynes (casting director), Chris Eyre (producer/director), Sean Covel (producer Napoleon Dynamite) Charlie Hoffheimer (Mad Men, Blackhawk Down), Shannon Lucio (The O.C., Prison Break), Bia Ling (The Crow, Red Corner), Gary Graham (Alien Nation, Star Trek), David Midthunder (Cowboys and Aliens, Lone Ranger), Adam Moore (Screen Actor's Guild Associate National Director) and many more.

The SDFF has hosted premiere screenings for dozens of films including a regional premiere for Into the Wild.

Films that have shown at SDFF have gone on to national critical acclaim, including Oscar Nominated Short Film - Miracle Fish.

While the festival emphasizes films from the Great Plains, that is not the only focus. The goal of the "South Dakota Film Festival" is to screen the "best" films submitted regardless of their geographic origin.

The SDFF is a filmmaker's festival including very low costs, excellent networking opportunities and annual education seminars. Your attendance at the SDFF is a goal of the festival.

The screening weekend of the South Dakota Film Festival runs September 25-28, 2014 in Aberdeen, SD.

The South Dakota Film Festival began in 2007 to provide acknowledge films made by filmmakers from the Great Plains region (SD, MN, ND, IA, WY, MT, and NE) or films shot in the Great Plains region.

However, regional considerations are only one of many factors considered in the final draw of films chosen for the “South Dakota Film Festival”.

While we are trying to emphasize films from the Great Plains, that is not the primary focus. The goal of the “South Dakota Film Festival” is to screen the “best” films submitted regardless of their geographic origin.

The screening weekend of the South Dakota Film Festival runs the last weekend in September. Most films are shown in the Historic Capitol Theatre in downtown Aberdeen, SD.

South Dakota Film Festival will take place in Aberdeen, South Dakota between September 25 and September 28 of 2014.
