The San Francisco United Film Festival screens cutting-edge independent films and highly acclaimed classic movies with the audience in mind. The festival’s focus is to bring together talented filmmakers from diverse backgrounds, thus creating a “United” showcase of creative energy and talent. This is a film festival for everyone, a place where art and community converge.

A Tulsa native filmmaker, Jason Connell and his production company Connell Creations founded the Tulsa United Film Festival nine years ago, expanding to Los Angeles & New York in 2007 and San Francisco, Chicago, & London in 2009. In addition to creating the United Film Festivals, in 2009 Connell produced & distributed the touching documentary "The Rock-afire Explosion", about a small-town disc jockey, a struggling inventor, and an animatronic rock band from the 80's. In 2007 he produced & directed his first feature length film "Strictly Background", the heartfelt documentary about 10 movie extras trying to make it in Hollywood. The film won six film festival awards and was released in 2008.

United Films, the distribution division of Connell Creations, continues to grow and support the United network by offering opportunities to filmmakers, many of whom are United Film Festival alumni.

The United Film Festivals began a rich tradition of showcasing humorous, touching, and provoking films in Tulsa, OK, expanding to Los Angeles & New York in 2007 and San Francisco, Chicago, and London in 2009.

As a result, they have built a large and constantly growing network of filmmakers. In 2011, they continued to expand that network by creating a forum solely for screenwriters with the United Film Festivals Screenwriting Contest, which accepts short and feature scripts in Drama, Comedy, and Horror/Thriller categories. Winners are honored at the Los Angeles United Film Festival Awards Night with prizes from Apple, Inktip, and Write Bros.

The United Film Festivals continue to reach out to its network of filmmakers by offering Film Feedback, designed to provide valuable insight by sharing comments from our programming committee. Film Feedback is optional and can be added to any submission.

Connell Creations’ distribution division, United Films, also works to provide opportunities to independent filmmakers. Many of the films in the United Films library originally played at one of the United Film Festivals, such as the thought provoking documentary “I Do, I Don’t,” released in Spring 2011, with many more titles slated for release this year.

Filmmakers are welcome to submit to a single festival or one of our United packages for a great deal. Each festival has a fresh lineup and a different set of programmers, so if a film is not accepted into one festival, it is still eligible for acceptance into every other festival in its package. Follow the instructions under “General Rules” to apply to each listing on Withoutabox without having to pay extra fees.

*All short films should be under 30 minutes. Full length docs or feature films should be over 30 minutes.

Submitters have the option to enter their film into consideration for a single city, a package of 3 United Film Festivals, or the entire season of 6 United Film Festivals. Submitters may also add a Feedback Option to their submission. This is a service that is designed to give filmmakers valuable insight from our programmers at the end of the Notification process.
All United packages will be available for the duration of the entire year. No matter what city you buy your package in, your film is immediately considered for the festival with the first upcoming deadline. If a festival's submission deadline has elapsed, your submission will be rolled over into next year's festival.

**We ask for your cooperation in making sure your film is included for review in every festival in your package. Please make sure to follow these directions closely!

If you submitted via a UNITED 3 PACKAGE:
Submit to the other two festivals of your choosing and utilize the waiver code UNITED 3. Under the box marked ‘Reason’ please provide us with your original Withoutabox tracking number.

If you submitted via a UNITED 6 PACKAGE:
Submit to all the United Film Festivals and utilize the waiver code UNITED 6. Under the box marked ‘Reason’ please provide us with your original Withoutabox tracking number.

Regarding United 6 Packages, please note that at different points during the year not all festivals will be open for submissions via Withoutabox. Submissions to United 3 or United 6 packages are always available directly through our website, and our internal records will always reflect your correct package, even if you cannot immediately take the steps to submit independently to each festival via Withoutabox. In the event that we need more information about your package or any other element of your submission, a member of our team will contact you.

***Please be advised that we only require one copy of your film regardless of how many festivals you submit to. We'll be passing your film along to the various programmers for each festival so there is no need for extra copies, plus it saves you time and money.

Clearly label your disc with your TRACKING NUMBER, TITLE, RUN TIME, and ASPECT RATIO.
