MISSION & OBJECTIVE

Launched in 2008 and now in its 10th year, Cinémonde is a smart, elegant private film series with screenings of American and international films throughout the year (approximately 6 to 9 events over every 12-month period) followed by a discussion with the films’ creative teams, along with a gourmet reception for guests and filmmakers.
Our event is private in order to avoid any conflicts about screening films in other festival venues who insist on "premieres." We select one feature film (and one short film) to screen, discuss and promote. The social component of the soirees we organize is important as it gives our audiences and filmmakers an opportunity to exchange ideas and reactions. Journalists may attend but agree not to write reviews until our film selections are in commercial distribution or broadcast on cable or VOD.

ABOUT THE FESTIVAL

Cinémonde was created to furnish a cordial, private salon-type event to see thought-provoking work from around the world, offering participants the opportunity to interact with the filmmakers and each other while savoring wonderful foods and beverages. The underlying theme is to bring people together with universal stories and warm hospitality. The pleasure of seeing good films is embellished with good talk, food, drink and company. Our target audience is film/TV/media professionals in the New York area, but many other professionals attend our soirees regularly.

The programmer and host of Cinémonde is Jerry Rudes, who is also Founder and Director of both the 25-year-old Avignon Film Festival (France) and the 13-year-old Avignon/New York Film Festival (USA).

The screening format of Cinémonde is cutting-edge video projection with a high-caliber sound system for excellent big-screen viewing. A quicktime ofile no larger than 50 gigs is required from each participating filmmaker.

Each Cinémonde soiree will offer a compelling program made up of a short film and feature film not yet widely screened in the United States.
Filmmakers and actors who are available from each production introduce and discuss their work.

The audience for Cinémonde is limited because our space is intimate, guests must be invited (thus underscoring the private nature of the series) with a high percentage of professionals attending. The dress code for Cinémonde is casual evening/chic. Seating is limited and guests must reserve their places beforehand on a first-come, first-serve basis. We close reservations when the venue is filled, but may sometimes have a waiting list for those who want to reserve if there are cancellations.

GENERAL RULES

Cinémonde is a private series, therefore we try to be selective, both in terms of the films invited to screen throughout the year and the audiences who are invited to attend. Filmmakers and creative teams will be invited as our guests along with their film(s) because an essential facet of Cinémonde is the interaction between audiences and the directors, producers, cinematographers and actors who have created the film we have selected and are screening. Cinemonde soirees are mostly about the filmmakers' work but also about networking, socializing and having fun. We try to support thought-provoking work that needs a nudge!
