MISSION & OBJECTIVE
A yearly tribute to cinema, the Alexandria Film Festival presents independent feature-length films and shorts of all genres by both emerging and established filmmakers. Our mission is to promote cinema as an important cultural, educational and entertainment asset and to our highly engaged audience. We proudly showcase Alexandria as a dynamic venue for creating, exhibiting, and experiencing film.
ABOUT THE FESTIVAL
Celebrating 10 years of independent film from around the world, the Alexandria Film Festival offers an enriching cinematic opportunity for filmmakers and film lovers alike by bringing high quality, diverse and thought-provoking films to Alexandria, Virginia. The 10th anniversary Alexandria Film Festival will be held November 10-13, 2016.
Year after year, the festival attracts exceptional independent short and feature-length films, as well as filmmaker Q&As, and arts presentations to historic Alexandria, Virginia and the greater Washington, D.C. metro area. Alexandria is home to both an extremely influential audience and myriad film enthusiasts. The city also attracts many domestic and international visitors, along with residents of the D.C.-metro area who value the city’s focus on the arts and charming historic community. Most of all, our audiences value filmmaker interactions and the festival is a great opportunity for filmmakers to directly communicate with audiences and network with other emerging and established filmmakers.
To celebrate our 10th anniversary, this year we are looking for independent films that invoke the follow characteristics:
*Local, national and international films
*Films that focus on sustainability: environmental, social and economic and all issues and sub-issues related thereto, e.g. sustainable agriculture, architecture, cultures, etc.
*Comedy and satire
*Children and family-friendly
*Health, science, and technology
*Politics and public policy
*Science fiction and fantasy
*Social justice and equality
Filmmakers are encouraged to interpret these categories broadly. The Alexandria Film Festival welcomes all submissions. Please note we accept Vimeo submissions, but you must submit a link with your submission.
