MISSION & OBJECTIVE
Here at the Friars Club, we take comedy seriously, especially when it comes to film. From Frank Sinatra and 'The Rat Pack' to Billy Crystal,
Whoopi Goldberg and Jerry Seinfeld, our members have included the top comedians and entertainers in the industry dating back to 1904, and when we’re not busy hosting one of our famous “roasts”, chances are we’re focused on our favorite genre of film. But it’s long been obvious to us that there is a void in the film festival world when it comes to comedy. Too often, talented comedy filmmakers aren’t given the opportunity to showcase their work. Whether it’s your typical “serious” film festival, or even the Academy Awards, comedies never seem to get the respect they deserve.
We’re determined to change all that. We launched the annual Friars Club Comedy Film Festival in 2009 to showcase the best and funniest comedy films from around the world and to foster the next generation of comedy filmmakers. We were proud to kick things off with the US Premiere of the Coen Brothers Academy Award nominated film "A Serious Man", and equally proud to champion a wide range of first time filmmakers that we thought had made really funny films. And by “comedy” we don’t mean any particular kind of comedy, we mean all comedy. Whether it’s crass, slapstick, sarcastic, a romantic comedy, a dark comedy, a spoof – you name it, if it’s funny, it’s eligible. The fifth annual festival offers six days of films, networking, parties and laughter. We hope you’ll join us for the fun.
ABOUT THE FESTIVAL
The Friars Club Comedy Film Festival was founded by The Friars Club and is being organized by a collection of filmmakers, film critics and film industry professionals who share a passion for comedy on film. The 2013 festival will present feature films, documentaries and shorts from around the world, as well as panel discussions with leading film industry professionals. The Board of Advisors for the festival includes Danny Aiello, Chris Albers, Michael Barker, Chuck Barris, Joy Behar, Richard Belzer, Tom Bernard, Marty Bregman, Lorenzo Carcaterra, Gil Cates, Dick Cavett, Dominic Chianese, Tom Fontana, Robert Ben Garant, Judy Gold, Anita Jaffe, Victor Kubicek, Lisa Lampanelli, Nathan Lane, Thomas Lennon, Samm Levine, Jerry Lewis, Susan Lucci, Michael Lynne, Mace Neufeld, Rick Newman, Vincent Pastore, Joe Piscopo, Paul Provenza, Al Roker, Freddie Roman, Rory Rosegarten, Jeffrey Ross, Stewie Stone and Alan Zweibel.

- Please submit 2 copies of your film.
- All films must be in English or subtitled in English.
- Tapes and publicity materials will not be returned.
- Films must have been completed after January 1, 2011.
- All entries must be accompanied by the appropriate entry fee.
- The Friars Club Comedy Film Festival is not responsible for DVDs/cassettes lost or damaged in transit.
- If accepted, exhibition copies are due no later than October 12, 2012.
- All accepted applicants will be notified of the Festival's decision on or around August 31, 2012.
Competition and Awards:
A panel of jurists comprised of filmmakers and professionals in the various fields of cinema will award the Festival's Best Short.

Terms and Conditions:
The Friars Club Comedy Film Festival is hereby granted the right to utilize an excerpt from any film submitted and accepted for exhibition at the Festival for promotional purposes.
The individual or corporation submitting the film hereby warrants that it is authorized to commit the film for screening, and understands and accepts these requirements and regulations. The individual or corporation also accepts the rules and regulations of the Festival and certifies that all statements in this document are true and that all necessary rights for the submission of this film have been obtained.
The individual or corporation submitting the film agrees to indemnify and hold harmless the Friars Club Comedy Film Festival from and against any and all claims, liabilities, losses, damages, and expenses (including but not limited to attorneys' fees, and costs of the court) which may be incurred by reason of any claim involving copyright, trademark, credits, publicity, screening, and loss of or damage to the screening videos entered. It is acknowledged and agreed that the Festival projection format may change.
