Africa (Feature)
Films of any length from African filmmaker with an artistic vision and voice that needs to be seen and heard. Features/Shorts/ Documentaries/Animation/Music Video films of any length are eligible. Films that feature the work of African artists, or have a African subject matter with a unique voice/message/creative appeal are eligible.
Student Filmmakers
We are dedicated to recognize and promote student filmmakers who are the new wave of present and the future. Features/Documentary/Shorts/Music Videos/Animated films made by filmmaker(s) studying in the United States or internationally are eligible in this category. Must be currently enrolled in or attending a college/film institute or University or produced during enrollment at a film school/institution.
New Directors Showcase
Film must be a debut feature or second feature-length film that exemplifies excellence in narrative fiction filmmaking and storytelling with emphasis on technique, production quality, and creative arts. Running time of 70 minutes or more.
Women Filmmakers (Feature)
Narrative Features/Documentary film of over 45 minutes length. Films can be produced and written with male partners, but must be directed by women. For any queries related to this category, contact submissions team at sea2012@WMIFF.com
South East Asia/(Shorts)
Narrative/Documentary/Experimental films of under 45 minutes length. MISSION & OBJECTIVE
By you, For you and About you. Welcome to the 5th Annual World Music and Independent film festival (WMIFF) 2014. WMIFF is established to celebrate and provide a platform to the achievements of international cinema artists. Dedicated to building a global film community and supporting emerging filmmakers, WMIFF offers all selected artists exceptional exposure and an inclusive vibe that has won over alumni, attendees, and industry alike. WMIFF festivities are open to all, featuring some of the best movies and bands from the independent music scene.




ABOUT THE FESTIVAL
Established in 2010, WMIFF (now in it's 5th year) is an IMDB qualifying - international film festival held in Washington D.C, USA annually that showcases and recognizes global independent films/ filmmakers and music related artists. The festival lasts 7 days each year and emphasizes young talents. We realize that just one award could help you gain the attention you need on the festival circuit, and we strive to give as many accolades as possible to deserving filmmakers.

At each festival a number of awards are given by an international jury.

At WMIFF all submissions gets recognized. Submit your film and have it's trailer shown on our website, get written up in our online magazine and have us help promote you on twitter, facebook, myspace and many others. WMIFF 2011 event awarded over 50 awards in multiple categories including Best Actor, Best Actress, Best Supporting Actor, Best Supporting Actress, Best Director, Best Screenplay, Best Dir. Of Photography and many others in the star studded Gala Awarding Banquet held at the prestigious Capitol Hilton in Washington D.C. We know you worked hard on your art, so let us show the world what you have. WMIFF is also an IMDB qualifying festival. IMDb is the most recognized and trafficked movie site in the world. We want to help you publicize and promote your movie as soon as it's ready for the world, not just after you've won recognition for it. Now, when you submit your project to WMIFF via Withoutabox, you'll automatically receive an invitation from IMDB to create a Title Page for your film on IMDb as well as Name Pages for your credited cast and crew.

This week long Festival's highlights include a Gala Opening and Closing Night Celebration, a Festival Centerpiece presentation, Special Spotlight on South East Asian Films, New Directors Showcase, International Music Videos concluded with a Red Carpet Black Tie Gala Awards Banquet held at the prestigious Capitol Hilton in Washington D.C. The Festival attracts celebrities, media journalists, civic and community leaders, film crews, and film enthusiasts from the around the world including Washington D.C metro, Maryland and Northern Virginia area. WMIFF2011 hosted a star studded spectacular red carpet gala awarding event at the prestigious Capitol Hilton, which was attended by celebrities including 5 Emmy, 2 Golden Globe, 1 Grammy and 2 times Oscar Nominee 'Carol Connors' of 'Rocky' fame, Grammy Nominee 'Cisco Steele', Internationally Acclaimed Director 'Rohit Gupta' of 'Another Day Another Life' & 'Life! Camera Action...' fame, Emmy Award winner Legendary TV Icon 'Merrie Lynn Ross', Emmy Award winner Actor David Lago, Nominated Filmmaker 'Sanjay Arora', Singer/Song Writer 'L.Maxim', Filmmaker 'ICizzle', Award winning Actress 'Holly Anderson', Actress Dipti Mehta of 'Life! Camera Action...' fame amongst others.

1) Film must not have been released online. ALL SUBMISSIONS must mention, what category they are applying for.

2) A log-line and a Short Synopsis of your work must be included with your film submission.

3) For your convenience we accept online screener submissions via Withoutabox. If you choose to mail your copies, please send 2 copies of your DVD to festival . All films must be submitted on DVD (NTSC Only) to:

Accompanying Materials:
4) In case if you choose to mail your DVD's, the following materials MUST be included with the DVD (2 copies, NTSC Only), or provided via Withoutabox. Entry materials will not be returned. Incomplete entries will not be considered.
o Official Entry submitted through Withoutabox
o Entry Fee: International Submissions must be paid by Credit Card. US Submissions may use Money Order as alternate payment method. Submission fee must be payable in the name of MJD Productions. All Submission fees are Non-Refundable.

5) All entries may be submitted authorized person to send the submission.

6) DO NOT use paper labels on the top of DVD lamination. Paper labels often cause DVDs to stick, skip, pixillate and stop.

7) DO NOT package your submission in shredded paper envelopes! Bubble-wrap is the best.

8) DO NOT send an SASE (self-addressed, stamped envelope), as preview materials cannot be returned.

9) There is no limit on how many entries you may submit, but each entry must have a separate entry and entry fee. You may send multiple submissions together in one package.

10) All films must be presented in their original language, with English subtitles. By "original language" is meant the one in which a film is or will be exhibited in its country of origin. No dubbed video tapes or DVDs will be previewed or considered.

11) Films previously submitted to WMIFF will only be considered if they have been re-edited and reapplied as a new submission, including all applicable entry fees.

Selection Criteria:

12) Films are selected on an invite only basis from eligible entries by the programming committee. Each film invited to be part of the Official Selection in competition by the Board of Directors/Programming Committee will receive a Certificate of Participation.

13) All Officially Selected films in Competition will be informed via email so please ensure you provide us with the right email address.

14) The winner in each category shall be announced at the Red Carpet Black Tie star studded gala awards night presentation held at the prestigious Capitol Hilton in Washington D.C to occur following the close of the Competition.

15) Award winners/ Nominees will be announced on the WMIFF website, Social Media and in our online magazine/ newsletters. If your film is selected for screening or if your submission is a finalist, please make every effort to attend the film festival. At the time WMIFF does not provide any travel/accommodation.

16) Selected films must be made available for Festival presentation in digital video (DVD)

17) During the entire duration of the WMIFF, none of the films invited may be shown outside the Festival's official theatres before its official screening.

Submission Labeling & Shipping:
18) All submissions must be labeled with the film title, running time and contact information (including name, address and phone number) and WAB tracking number. International shipments must be accompanied by a commercial invoice (containing the film title, run time, format (color or b&w), value of shipment and sender's name and address). 19) Screeners and shipping documents should be marked: Without commercial value, for cultural purposes only. All film submissions must be shipped prepaid and packed in proper containers to arrive at the WMIFF office no later than their respective deadlines.
o If a film is invited to participate, the DVD copy MUST reach the WMIFF office on time and must be shipped prepaid and packed in proper packing material..
o WMIFF does not assume any liability for damage to the DVD copy due to improper packing material or otherwise.

19) All films must be submitted on DVD (NTSC Only)

20) Once a film has been selected it cannot be withdrawn from the Festival programme during the event.

21) Participation in the WMIFF implies acceptance of all the aforementioned regulations and respect of preselection conditions.

TERMS AND CONDITIONS

World Music and Independent Film Festival is hereby granted the right to utilize an excerpt from any film submitted and accepted for exhibition at the Festival for promotional purposes. The individual or corporation submitting the film hereby warrants that it is authorized to commit the film for screening, and understands and accepts these requirements and regulations. The undersigned shall indemnify and hold harmless World Music and Independent Film Festival from and against any and all claims, liabilities, losses, damages, and expenses (including but not limited to attorney's fees, and costs of the court) which may be incurred by reason of any claim involving copyright, trademark, credits, publicity, screening, and loss of or damage to the screening videos entered.
