Documentary
The Free Thinking Film Society was established in 2007 in Ottawa to provide an outlet for filmmakers and moviegoers alike who are looking for an alternative to the ‘alternative’. In other words, we celebrate the efforts of risk-taking documentarians whose work espouses the values of limited, democratic government, free market economies, equality of opportunity rather than equality of result, and the dignity of the individual, all underscored by a healthy and patriotic respect for Western culture and traditions. Although there are a lot of courageous voices in the non-fiction film industry producing thoughtful pieces of art which reject cultural relativism, central economic planning and American culpability for all that ills the world, you wouldn’t know it by looking at the listings for most art house cinemas. We’re dedicated to changing that by bringing these exciting and challenging documentaries to Canada’s capital.

ABOUT THE FESTIVAL
The 4th Annual Free Thinking Film Festival 2013 will be held between October 31st, 2013 and November 3rd, 2013. The Festival will open on Thursday night with a film and a Gala party – with notable personalities and celebrities.

We will have a second Gala event on the Friday night and follow that with a weekend filled with films, workshops, panel discussions, lectures, and book signings. Saturday and Sunday will have after-parties not to be missed! In fact, we have rented the use of 3 major rooms at the Archives, which means we will be able to host 3 films and events.

There will also be a merchandise corner, a book store, and a lounge where food and beverage will be available. All sponsors will have the opportunity for a booth in our “Free Thinking Alley” where attendees can connect with Canada’s foremost pundits and essayists.

Attendance Expectations

It is currently anticipated there will be over 1,500 individual visits to the Festival. We are currently negotiating with several Hollywood celebrities, and this might dramatically increase our numbers. We will have the ability to show 3 concurrent films, and with a major amount of space dedicated for our partners, and for food and beverage, we feel that attendees will spend a major part of their weekend at the National Archives.

The people who attend the Free Thinking Film Society films are well-educated, employed at high levels and are engaged politically. We attract men and women in relatively equal proportions. Our events also draw students and seniors but primarily those in the 35 - 50 year old age bracket. Our supporters are the demographic you want to engage with and they will respond positively to your message.
