MISSION & OBJECTIVE

Lakeshorts International Short Film Festival, in association with Lakeshore Arts, aims to showcase the independent spirit and passion of short films while fostering the film community of the South Etobicoke area. The Festival acknowledges outstanding achievement through awards by local sponsors.

ABOUT THE FESTIVAL

Toronto, ON, (March 12, 2015) – Lakeshorts International Short Film Festival, produced by Fifth Ground Entertainment Inc. in association with Lakeshore Arts, will celebrate its Fifth Anniversary at The Assembly Hall, 1 Colonel Samuel Smith Park Dr. (Kipling Ave. & Lake Shore Blvd. W.), Toronto on Friday, May 1st and Saturday, May 2nd, 2015. Blue Carpet arrivals for the Loved and Local and Gala Performance begin at (and doors open) at 6:30 PM for a pre-performance reception featuring refreshments, appetizers and live music. The screening begins at 7:30 pm. Tickets are $65 each for the Gala and include the after-party. Loved and Local Tickets are $40.00 each and include an after screening Social. They are available through the Lakeshore Arts office at 2422 Lakeshore Blvd. West or by calling 416-201-7093. – Tickets are available to the General Public on April 15th, 2015 at 9:00a.m. via the website at www.lakeshorts.ca

In addition to 5th Anniversay Celebrations, Lakeshorts will be the official kickoff to the Etobicoke Cultural Hotspot! Saturday, March 2nd is the official launch with “The Long and Short of It” industry Panel at 10:30a.m., hosted by Zoie Palmer, a Celebration with Etobicoke’s cultural supporters and distinguished guests at 12:30p.m, a Special Screening of “Lakeshorts 5 Year Highlights” at 1:45p.m. and the weekend long “Through the Eyes of The Artist” Art Exhibit. All will take place at the Assembly Hall!

After reviewing over one hundred and forty submissions, a distinguished jury has programmed both screenings to include short films from around the world. From comedy to genre films to compelling dramas, Lakeshorts brings the world of cutting-edge independent filmmaking to South Etobicoke., while paying special attention to our very own homegrown talent! The Gala is hosted by renowned film critic, Richard Crouse and the Loved and Local host is award winning actor Rick Roberts. The festival acknowledges outstanding achievement through awards donated by local sponsors including Deluxe, William F. White, Scotia Bank, The City of Toronto and Agency 71.
Lakeshorts is spearheaded by Canadian actress, Michelle Nolden, & Film and Television producer, Chris Szarka. As Mimico residents, Nolden and Szarka have been longtime supporters of the many grass-roots initiatives organized by Lakeshore Arts. “Over the past five years we have watched this Festival grow into a favourite of South Etobicoke Residents. We are honored to bring our passion for film to our neighbours while making the world aware of our rich artistic life here in South Etobicoke. We look forward to this special anniversary year”
Lakeshore Arts is a community arts organization that has been serving the South Etobicoke communities of Toronto for the past 21 years. It helps to build a more vibrant community through arts leadership and the integration of arts and culture into all aspects of life for those who live, work and visit the Lakeshore. A strong belief that art transcends barriers and fosters the social and spiritual well being of people of all ages and backgrounds helps to create unique, innovative programming that serves and supports both the residents and local artists.

GENERAL RULES

Lakeshorts International Short Film Festival

Description

Lakeshorts International Short Film Festival (the “Festival”) is sponsored by Lakeshore Arts, a not-for-profit corporation, and is produced by Fifth Ground Entertainment Inc. (“Fifth Ground”).

Rules

Limitations on Entries:

The Festival will consider dramatic, narrative, documentary, experimental or animated films, videos or digital audio-visual productions (each, a “Film”) up to 20 minutes in length.

The Festival will not consider demo reels, commercials or advertisements, video or new media games, Films with prior commercial release, industrial and instructional productions, music videos, infomercials, obvious branded content (product placement or integration is acceptable) or Films with pornography or extreme violence.

Films previously submitted to the Festival may not be re-submitted.

All Films in a language other than English must be subtitled or dubbed in English unless dialogue is not essential to comprehension and appreciation.

Entrants are responsible for securing all necessary rights and permissions for the Festival’s exhibition of each Film submitted and use of all accompanying materials.

Submission:

Submissions will be accepted between August 2014 and January 2015.

Submissions must be made through www.withoutabox.com. Screeners are to be sent to Lakeshore Arts 2422 Lakeshore Blvd W, Toronto, Ontario, Canada M8V 1C4.



Entrants can submit up to three Films, each with a separate entry form and fee.

Each entry must include:
- Appropriate entry fee for deadline (Payment online only to Withoutabox)
- Completed and signed entry form or Withoutabox Equivalent
- DVD copy of the Film submitted, labeled with title, running time and entrant’s name
-brief synopsis and photo still in landscape orientation for website
- Promotional materials (including press kit) if available, Film synopsis, principal cast list, and photos and brief approved bios of producer / director / writer

Note: Format/submission of screeners and promotional material to be confirmed.

Incomplete entries will not be considered.



Awards:

The number, categories and types of awards to be given, and the recipients, will be determined and decided in the sole discretion of the Festival based on the Films submitted. The categories may, but are not required to, include: best film, best cinematography, best performance (male / female) or any other category determined by the Festival.

Entrants will be notified if their Film has been selected and won an award by e-mail at the address provided to the Festival on the entry form.

The winning Films will be exhibited at the Festival Awards, currently intended to be held at The Assembly Hall, 1 Colonel Samuel Smith Park Drive (at Kipling Avenue and Lakeshore Blvd W), Toronto, Ontario Canada M8V 4B6.

Each entrant of an award-winning Film will receive 2 tickets to the Festival Awards.

Terms and Conditions

By submitting a Film to the Festival, you agree as follows:

You will comply with the above Rules and with these terms and conditions.

If your Film is selected, the Festival will have the rights to: exhibit the Film at the 2016 Festival; use excerpts and stills from the Film and the promotional materials submitted by you (collectively, the “Promotional Materials”) and your name in any and all media (collectively, the “Festival Promotional Materials”), for the period ending one year after the Festival, to promote the Festival, the Festival Awards, the Film, Lakeshore Arts and Fifth Ground, provided that there will be no obligation to stop using the Promotional Materials or your name in any Festival Promotional Materials that were exhibited or circulated publicly during such one-year period including, without limitation, brochures and blogs that are subsequently archived.

You hereby represent, warrant and covenant that: you are authorized to submit the Film for consideration at the Festival; no consent from, or payment to, any other person or entity is required for the Film to be exhibited at the Festival or for the use of Promotional Materials; no exhibition of the Film at the Festival or use of Promotional Materials will violate or infringe any copyright, trade-mark, privacy rights, publicity rights or any other right of any individual or entity and there is no material in the Film or Promotional Materials that is defamatory; you have paid in full all fees and obtained all consents and permissions necessary for the Festival’s exhibition of the Film at the Festival Awards and use of the Promotional Materials; and you are 19 years of age or older or, if you are younger, you have provided the Festival with a written consent from your parent or legal guardian.

You will promptly provide all necessary information and documentation to confirm the foregoing, upon request by the Festival.

You agree, on your own behalf and on behalf of any person or entity having any rights with respect to the Film to indemnify and hold harmless the Festival, Lakeshore Arts and Fifth Ground, together with their respective officers, directors, employees, agents, licensees and assigns (collectively, “Festival Related Parties”) from and against any and all claims, losses, liabilities, damages, fees and expenses (including, but not limited to, reasonable legal fees and other costs) that may be asserted by any person or entity or may be incurred by Festival Related Party at any time in connection with the Film or the Festival’s use thereof, and/or arising from any breach or alleged breach of any representation made by you.

You acknowledge that the Festival has no obligation to select your Film for an award and/or exhibition at the Festival Awards.

While the Festival will take precautions to handle your Film and Promotional Materials responsibly, the Festival, its committee and staff cannot be held responsible for any loss or damage to any materials submitted.
