MISSION & OBJECTIVE
The Borrego Springs Film Festival goal is to expose audiences to the artistry, issues, and perspectives of independent film. Providing quality, well-attended events where filmmakers can exhibit their work, engage in networking, and have a great experience.
ABOUT THE FESTIVAL
One huge theater, one big screen, and endless community enthusiasm!
Filmmakers showing their work at our festival are always treated to a full house.
We sell out our passes every year. It's what makes our festival unique and lively. Q&A is an adventure, and our audiences are among the best on the festival circuit! The Borrego Springs Film Festival is a young and popular Southern California film festival that features narrative, documentary, animation, latino, and short films.
Our selected films screen at the local 180-seat Borrego Springs Performing Arts Center. Capacity audiences are anticipated for every film screening. Networking events, industry panels, and parties occur at various local resorts throughout the festival weekend.
Borrego Springs Film Festival occurs in our small desert resort town surrounded by the 640,000 acres of Anza Borrego Desert State Park. This natural beauty has long attracted tourists and filmmakers and explains the area's strong historical connection to cinema production.
The earliest feature was made here in the 1920's and over 60 films have been shot here since. Film industry personalities come to Borrego Springs to live, work, and play. We welcome your creative energy to our film festival and invite you to join us in building a tradition celebrating innovative filmmaking.
“What an amazing film festival. The town really comes out to support the BSFF and make all the film makers feel welcomed and appreciated. We’ve had three films in the festival in three years and had 3 sold out screenings. I can’t wait to come back next year.” —Devin Scott, She Wore Silver Wings
“The festival was delightful: a warm, supportive environment for filmmakers, with a terrific audience for every film due to your single venue concept, which so many festivals lack. I had a wonderful time!” —Steve Lerner, When the Well Runs Dry
“I arrived at my films screening to see a line around the block. The large theater was packed. The Q & A was full of questions. This is a very cool festival, in a very cool location.” —Greg Morgan, The Boatman
“I never imagined the film would end up in front of an audience in the most beautiful Californian setting. It's a real delight to hear the work manages to travel overseas, to be enjoyed by distant cultures. Long live the Borrego Springs International Film Festival!" —Martin Smith, Seagulls
“The Borrego Springs Film Festival is a great event that provides filmmakers with a wonderful audience. I would definitely recommend other filmmakers to submit their films and to attend the festival!” —Danny Torres, Mano a Mano

Rules & Terms
Meeting this parameter is encouraged, but not required, as it assists the selection committee in viewing and judging your film: We request that submittal screenings be uploaded to Vimeo.com with the option for allowing download. This allows our selection committee to acquire the film in its entirety for proper playback during our scheduled local screening sessions. Our community is small and the local internet does not support useable video streaming speeds. Please help us in this regard if you can. Thank you.
• Films completed on or after July 1, 2014 are eligible.
• Entrant confirms and warrants required legal authority to submit the entry into the festival and to use all music, images, and content in the entry.
• All films must be in English or subtitled in English.
All films may be submitted into only one category:
• Narrative Feature – any narrative film 40 minutes or longer
• Narrative Short – any narrative short film under 40 minutes
• Documentary – a documentary of any length
• Latino – a film of any length made by, featuring, about and/or for the Latino community
• Animation – any form of animation, any length
We encourage you to pay entry fees online during the online application process. Otherwise checks can be mailed to BSFF, PO Box 756, Borrego Springs, CA 92004. International entrants who do not pay online must use an international money order payable to Borrego Festivals Foundation.
If your film is accepted, you must be able to provide at a minimum: a hi-res film still, a hi-res poster of your movie, a high-res image of the director and/or producer, and a synopsis of your film in 140 characters or less.
The BSFF features trailers of selected films during our screenings, as well as showcasing the trailers on our website and social media. All accepted films we provide a trailer no less than :30 and no longer than 2:15.
More than one entry may be submitted. However, each entry must be submitted as a new film with a separate online entry form, a unique registration number, an additional entry fee, and on a separate DVD, if mailed in rather than uploaded.
If your film is selected to be part of BSFF 2017, you will be notified via email on or about November 15, 2016. You will also be notified by email if your film is not selected. Please make sure that you notify us if email changes, and add firstname.lastname@example.org to your safe sender email list.
Unfortunately we are unable to respond with any feedback or explanations if your film is not accepted. The need for additional editing is the most common factor making the difference between a film that is selected and a film that is not. But we also receive many more worthy films than we have programming space to screen, so don’t be discouraged if your film is not accepted.
