The New York Indian Film Festival is North America's oldest and most prestigious film festival which features cinema from the Indian Subcontinent, and South Asian Diaspora.

Presented by the Indo-American Arts Council, Inc. NYIFF Celebrates alternative, independent cinema from the global South Asian community. The festival is dedicated to providing filmmakers, actors,and industry professionals a platform to showcase their work, as well as creating an environment where filmmakers may exchange ideas with one another, and interact with discerning and diverse audiences, journalists, and aficionados.

The 16th Annual New York Indian Film Festival will be held May 7 - 14, 2016

Highlights Include: Opening night gala, premiere screenings, all day industry panels, nightly networking parties, post-screening discussions, red carpet galas, directorial debuts, award ceremony, industry participation, media attention, outreach events, and packed audiences.

Many films of our past festival selections have subsequently won awards or been featured at, the Academy Awards (Oscars), British Academy of Film and Television Arts Awards (BAFTA), Golden Globes, Screen Actor's Guild, Tribeca Film Festival, IFP Market.

Over the past thirteen years, our selection has showcased a wide range of South Asian film-makers such as Shyam Benegal, Mira Nair, Aparna Sen, Deepa Mehta, Mani Ratnam, Anurag Kashyap, Ashvin Kumar Ajay Naidu, Feroze Khan, Ketan Mehta, and the late Rituparno Ghosh.

Submitted works MUST satisfy ANY ONE of the eligibility criteria below:

The Film's country of origin is within the Indian Subcontinent: India, Pakistan, Bangladesh, Nepal, Sri Lanka, Afghanistan, Bhutan.


The film features a significant contribution by a Filmmaker(s), Actor(s), Writer(s), Director(s) of South Asian descent living outside the subcontinent. This may include films made by Non-South Asians that feature significant South Asian content, inspiration or subject matter.

In addition to the above, Entrants must fully comply with the Entry Rules & Regulations, including all deadlines, film length, entry material and other requirements outlined below.

Only films that have not premiered in New York, or the Tri-State Area will remain in consideration.

Non-English language works must have English subtitles at the time submitted. Dialogue lists will not be accepted.

All entries must include the following:

1. ENTRY FORM completed on Withoutabox
3. SCREENERS: A Secure Online Screener
4. PRESS KIT - Including: 4 Hi-Res publicity stills, 15 second trailer, Director's picture & bio, Cast and Crew information.

Note: It is Entrant’s sole responsibility to ensure all ENTRY MATERIALS arrive at the NYIFF 2016 shipping destination within the deadline. The Festival reserves the right to disqualify any submission, without refund of any kind, which does not arrive at the NYIFF 2016 shipping destination within the deadline window selected by Entrant.

Entry materials will not be returned and will be destroyed or discarded by the Festival.



This is to certify that I am submitting my film for consideration for its New York Premiere at the New York Indian Film Festival (NYIFF) 2016 - presented by the Indo-American Arts Council (IAAC) Film Festival, after having read, understood, and accepted the rules, terms and conditions.


• I am authorized to enter this film for consideration to NYIFF 2016, 16th IAAC Film Festival, New York, 2016.

• My film is eligible for this festival and that it is in full compliance with the rules and criteria that apply

• I am aware that if my film is accepted, it cannot be publically (commercially or non-commercially) be screened anywhere in the New York area (including New Jersey, Long Island, and New York State) before the New York Premiere at the IAAC festival.

• I will upload a secure online screener via Withoutabox

• I understand that it is my responsibility to provide a press kit with film stills, 15-sec trailer, cast & crew information, director’s picture and bio, without which my submission will be considered incomplete and will be under no obligation to be considered by the Selection Committee.

• Upon acceptance,I will provide, at my expense, a high quality 15 second trailer, posters, and other publicity material for distribution to media partners and press.

• Upon acceptance, I will provide by April 1st 2016, a high quality secure online screener (via vimeo or similar service) for the competition jury's consideration.

• I am aware, and consent that my name, my film’s name, and clips from my film may be included in promotional material, or should my film be selected or nominated for a festival award.

• Upon acceptance, I will provide by April 20th 2015, an exhibition worthy print conforming to one of the formats requested.

• If my film is accepted, and I am present in New York, I will attend the Opening Night Gala and will walk the red carpet.

• If my film is accepted, me or someone significantly involved with the film will be present and available for the press conference, premiere screening of my film, and to participate in the post-screening discussion after my film is premiered.

• If my film is accepted, and I am present in New York, I will attend the Industry Panel Discussions, Filmmakers reception, and Closing Night Red Carpet Screening and Awards Ceremony.

• I am responsible for any ticket purchases in addition to the allotted tickets for Opening Night, my screening, and closing night

• I will be available for, and co-operative with any other Festival or film-related event as arranged by the festival organizers.
