MISSION & OBJECTIVE
Brooklyn Girl Film Festival seeks to empower women filmmakers from around the globe, and honor their unique and relevant interpretation of the world around them. We strive to strengthen the community of women in the film industry.
ABOUT THE FESTIVAL
The 3rd Annual Brooklyn Girl Film Festival will take place in Brooklyn New York, March 27-29, 2014. We are an intimate festival that puts our filmmakers first. The thriving artist community in Brooklyn is very supportive of us.
Women Filmmakers whose films completed post production after June 1, 2012 are welcome to submit. A woman must serve in the role of Writer, Director, or Lead Animator in the film.
All screenings include a Q&A with the filmmakers. Past festivals have included discussions, workshops, catered opening reception, filmmaker brunches and dinners, raffles, and an awards ceremony. We present an Audience Choice Award to the best feature film and the best short film as voted on by the audience.
Here is what some of our filmmakers have said about our event:
Brooklyn Girl Film Festival is a fantastic festival. They communicate with and care about the filmmakers and provide a warm place to showcase work by women filmmakers. We had a wonderful time at the Festival! – Amanda Melby – director of “Kerry and Angie”
I was really blown away by the films that screened at Brooklyn Girl Film Festival. These are film Makers that have big careers ahead of them, many very established already and really very cool people doing very important work. April, The festival director and the festival team made the whole experience enjoyable as a filmmaker and an audience member. The talent here was pretty amazing! The Brooklyn Girl festival has the pulse of upcoming film makers from all over the world!!! – Megan Corry, Director “The Smell of Sand”
Thank you so much for inviting us and our film “Impulses” and thus give it the opportunity to spread its reflections regarding women and creation, the links with procreation and the fact that there are still missing girls out there to take the lead as artists in the public space ! Let’s follow the hitch willing to come out, in spite of the odds that would refrain us to fully express ourselves creatively. The world needs the Yin part to be balanced. Let’s go girls!! – Marie-Pascale Laurencelle, Director and Co-Writer, Impulses
