The Independent Filmmakers Showcase© of Los Angeles exists to discover groundbreaking cinema; providing development and creative opportunities for filmmakers through showcases, events, and the annual IFS Film Festival©.

The IFS L.A. FILM FEST is held each spring at the world-famous Los Angeles Grove entertainment complex, located in the heart of the film industry in Los Angeles, and features hundreds of films from around the globe, that screen at the Pacific Theaters Stadium Cinemas and other classic cinemas across L.A., Beverly Hills, & Santa Monica, California USA.

Kenneth Anger's rare version of "Scorpio Rising", ROAR starring Melanie Griffith and Tippi Hedren, and "The Fourth Dimension" from Jan Kwiecinski, Aleksei Fedorchenko, and Harmony Korine (starring Val Kilmer) each received special early premiere screenings at our IFS Independent Filmmakers Showcase events.




ABOUT IFS
LOS ANGELES FILM FESTIVAL:
Presenting screenings and supporting film preservation year-round; the Independent Filmmakers Showcase hosts a community of filmmakers, students, and industry professionals dedicated to independent cinema, who attend our annual events and spread the word about great new cinema.

Founded in the early 1990's, the Independent Filmmakers Showcase was created by film students who hosted screenings of obscure and foreign films before the internet, and evolved into a 100+ membership organization that hosts the premiere independent film showcase series in Los Angeles.

IFS supports the creation of new cinemas and public screening rooms for independent film screenings, film forums and preservation of classic film venues; fostering a large community of filmmakers, students, and industry professionals dedicated to independent cinema and it's exhibition.

Films are eligible for sponsor-awarded prizes in many genre categories each year. All submitted films are viewed on a cinema screen by no less than six judges from the Independent Filmmakers Showcase for their initial screening,

Best Screenplay First Place is Awarded $10,000.

IFS Award Ceremony takes place each spring in Beverly Hills, next to the Academy for Motion Pictures Arts and Sciences©® building (home of the Oscars©®) to honor the best in independent cinema of the past exhibition season.

GENERAL RULES



IFS RULES & REGULATIONS

- Submitters must be 18 years of age or older to enter all Independent Filmmakers Showcase (IFS) competitions.
- In submitting to any IFS event via Withoutabox, the submitter admitting to represent all copyright holders of any submitted material.
- Independent Filmmakers Showcase reserves the right to refuse service to anyone online and at on-site events.
- Entries in IFS competitions are void where prohibited by law.
- Entry fees must be paid in U.S. dollars before films will be viewed.
- Festival dates are subject to change.
- Submitting work to the Independent Filmmakers Showcase is an admittance that your entry is your own original work and it does not infringe on the copyright or other rights of any other people.
- By submitting to the IFS, submitter acknowledges all listed creators authorize the submission.
- Parent / guardian may submit on behalf of minors.
- Submitters agree that by submitting their film to IFS, they are agreeing to allow IFS to screen any submitted entries at (2) two public and ticketed-for-profit screenings by the IFS (at the IFS Film Festival, or other IFS events), with times and dates chosen by IFS programmers, to be held within 365 days from the submission payment date.
- Submitting to IFS is an acknowledgment that your film submission does not have any major theatrical distribution deals in the United States of America that would conflict with your agreement allowing IFS to screen your submitted film.
- Submitters to the Independent Filmmakers Showcase (IFS) agree to be fully responsible for any damages resulting from failure to properly notify IFS (at ifsfilm@gmail.com), at least (4) four weeks prior to all IFS screening dates, about any screening or distribution conflicts.
- All festival screening times and venues subject to delay or change.
- Films selected for competition receive (2) complimentary passes to most screenings at that year's festival.
- In the event of multiple authors of a prize-winning work, any prizes will be divided equally among listed creators.
- IFS is not responsible for films, posters or materials missing or lost in transit.
- IFS cannot return original materials submitted for review.
- Please do not send original materials for review or exhibition.
- Submissions are non-returnable. Posters & Press materials are non-returnable. All fees are non-refundable.
- IFS does not provide room, board or travel for filmmakers.
- Exhibition Formats are subject to change and based on each unique festival venue and with technological advances:
- Films can be universally screened from Blu Ray or DVD.
- DVD or Blu Ray backups are required for exhibit.
- Venues may offer 35mm, 16mm, DCP, or digital file options.
- DCP (cru interface) is the current universal DCP format.
- Short Films are generally exhibited in BluRay / DVD / DCP (cru)
- Films exhibiting in 35mm, 16m or DCP (cru) need to arrange with festival for the drop-off and pick-up of print copy.
- Check with festival for (non-cru) DCP or digital (mov/mp4 file) compatibility. Venues will not have accurate information.
- Festival does not cover cost of print shipping are return.
- Thumb / flash drives may not be returned.
- Guests are responsible for any personal damage caused to any IFS party / screening venues and may be subject to property damage costs.
- Any filmmaker or member of entourage causing disruption, acting aggressively, disrespectfully or threateningly to staff, venue employee and/or festival staff may result in that film being pulled from exhibition without refund.
- By submitting to IFS via Withoutabox the submitter agrees to all of the IFS General Festival Rules listed above, as well as all the IFS Terms of Use / Terms & Conditions / Disclaimer of Warranties listed below under Terms of Use / Terms & Conditions.



JUDGING PROCESS
All films submitted to the festival are watched and scored by screeners and programmers (members of the Independent Filmmakers Showcase who are students or professionals with background in journalism, film, film scholarship, and/or employment in Film or Television and/or journalism.

Films that have the highest score (or those specifically a championed by a programmer) move on to final deliberation and democratic vote by the IFS Board of Directors and the IFS Programming Directors. All submitted film copies are all held & screened to judges in one central location. Screener copies are never passed out to judges, screeners, or programming directors for safety and security of your films content.

FEE / JUDGING WAIVERS
In the spirit of fair competition no film is offered early or late acceptance nor offered waivers if part of general festival award and showcase competition. No Officially Selection is selected without going through the judging and fee process. IFS does offer paid private screening options for unofficially selected films that screen during the festival weeks.

The IFS also looks at films recommended by programmers and other festivals; but those films still must pay any requisite fees. IFS Board OF Directors has the right to vote films that have won awards at other IFS events and showcases and into IFS events without a second round of pre-screening. All judge / reader / screener / programming director decisions are final.




TERMS AND CONDITIONS

IFS TERMS OF USE

Failure to comply with Independent Filmmakers Showcase guidelines, rules, regulations, or eligibility may be cause for disqualification and result in having your film pulled from screening or competition.

By entering (submitting to) any Independent Filmmakers competition you are admitting that you have read, understood and agreed to follow our Rules and Regulations for festival submission and to abide by our Terms and Conditions of service and our general festival Rules and Regulations.

By entering (submitting to) any Independent Filmmakers competition, entrants release and hold the Independent Filmmakers Showcase, it’s Board of Directors, Officers, Staff and Volunteers harmless from and against all losses, damages, rights, claims and actions of any kind arising in whole or in part, directly or indirectly, from participation with the competition or participation in any competition related activity.

By entering (submitting to) any Independent Filmmakers competition you grant the Independent Filmmakers Showcase the right to use screen grabs, press materials, and stills from your movie on IFS advertisements, press, and programs, and on the IFS website for (4) months preceding and (48) months following the year submitted.

If you do not wish IFS to use your screen grabs, press materials or stills from your film in our advertisements, press materials and programs for this time period, you need to request in writing (please send to our email INFO@ifsfilm.com with a header of NO PRESS) that you do not want your materials used for such purposes.

By entering (submitting to) any Independent Filmmakers competition you are admitting that you are 18 years of age or older.

By entering (submitting to) any Independent Filmmakers competition you are granting the right for the Independent Filmmakers Showcase to screen your film publicly one to two times in the next twelve months (depending on the festival entered).

By entering (submitting to) any Independent Filmmakers competition you acknowledge that you are not entitled to any refund or damage claims of any kind if your film is unable to screen due to technical or operational difficulties or if your film needs to be rescheduled or delayed for any reason. Independent Filmmakers Showcase is not responsible for broken or non-functioning films.

All federal, state and local laws and regulations apply.

INDEPENDENT FILMMAKERS SHOWCASE AND ITS AFFILIATES AGGREGATE LIABILITY TO YOU OR ANY THIRD PARTY IN ANY CIRCUMSTANCE ARISING OUT OF OR RELATED TO THE WEBSITE OR THIS AGREEMENT IS LIMITED TO $200.

General.
If any provision of this Agreement is held to be invalid or unenforceable, such provision shall be struck and the remaining provisions shall be enforced. You agree that this Agreement may be automatically assigned by The INDEPENDENT FILMMAKERS SHOWCASE, in its sole discretion, to a third party. Section headings are for reference purposes only and in no way define, limit, construe or describe the scope or extent of such section. Our failure to act with respect to a breach by you or others does not waive our right to act with respect to subsequent or similar breaches. This Agreement, along with any other terms and conditions regulating use of the Website, sets forth the entire understanding and agreement between us with respect to the subject matter hereof. The provisions of this Agreement and any ancillary terms and conditions will survive termination or expiration to the extent necessary to carry out the intentions of the parties.

Indemnification.
You agree to indemnify, defend and hold The INDEPENDENT FILMMAKERS SHOWCASE harmless from any claim, expense or demand, including without limitation reasonable attorneys´ fees, made by any third party due to or arising out of your breach of this Agreement, or your violation of any law or the rights of a third party.

Governing Law.
You acknowledge and agree that this Agreement shall be governed by and construed in accordance with the internal laws of the State of California, excluding conflict of laws provisions thereof that would indicate the application of the laws of any other jurisdiction and you hereby submit to exclusive jurisdiction in the federal and state courts of California. You agree to receive service of process through certified mail or by other means sanctioned by law, and you expressly waive any claim of improper venue and any claim that such courts are an inconvenient forum.


Copyright.
All content contained on the Independent Filmmakers Showcase (IFS) Website, including but not limited to video, clips, photographs, text, graphics, logos, icons, images and software (collectively, “Content”), is the property of Independent Filmmakers Showcase and is protected by U.S. and/or international copyright laws. Any reproduction, modification, distribution, transmission, republication, display or performance of the content contained is strictly prohibited. If you use material appearing on the Website contrary as set forth in the Agreement, you may be liable for infringement, misappropriation or other causes of action to the fullest extent of the law.

Trademarks.
Unless otherwise indicated, all names, graphics, designs, logos, page headers, button icons, scripts, commercial markings, trade dress, and service names included in the Website are trademarks of the Independent Filmmakers Showcase, or our partner films, and as such are protected by the trademark laws of the United States and other jurisdictions. You may not use, copy, reproduce, republish, distribute, modify or post any Trademarks in any way, including in advertising or publicity pertaining to or distribution of materials on the Website, without our prior written consent. The Trademarks may not be used in any manner that is likely to cause confusion, or in any manner that disparages or discredits us. Risk of Loss.
You the submitter acknowledge and agree that the festival is not responsible for any lost or damaged film prints, posters, or press materials used at the festival, and the submitter acknowledges and agrees that your only remedy for failures, delays, or interruptions with respect to the ordering of and delivery of passes ordered by you through the IFS Website, Brown Paper Tickets, Eventbrite, or other ticketing services, and for any issues with submissions ordered via IFS websites, Withoutabox, Film Freeway, and/or any postal services or submission platforms will be limited to a refund issued and at the sole discretion of the Independent Filmmakers Showcase.

Right To Enter.
Entrants warrant that they have the legal right to enter film work to the Independent Filmmakers Showcase. As Director/Producer/Submitter, entrants have submitted to the IFS, entrants represent and warrant to the IFS that the Submission and all parts thereof are original; that the Submission does not contravene the rights of any person or entity and that entrants own or control the Submission and all parts thereof and have the sole authority to submit the Submission to the IFS; and the Submission entrants submitted to the IFS is not subject to, nor threatened by, any litigation. Entrants acknowledge that no fiduciary or confidential relationship now exists between the Festival and entrants, and entrants further acknowledge that no such relationship is established by these guidelines, the Submission, or by the IFS acceptance, review or retention of the Submission.
