Los Angeles "IFS" : The Independent Filmmakers Showcase© (of Beverly Hills, L.A. & Santa Monica) was created to discover groundbreaking cinema and provide development opportunities for filmmakers through showcases and the annual IFS Film Festival.

In presenting screenings and supporting preservation year-round; the IFS hosts a community of filmmakers, students, and industry professionals dedicated to independent cinema.

IFS FILM FEST:
The IFS Film Fest of Los Angeles is a celebration of independent filmmaking, held in Beverly Hills, and in cinemas across Los Angeles, Santa Monica, and Hollywood; featuring screenings from emerging and established filmmakers, with press events, parties, forums, panels, and Hollywood film premieres.

IFS Award Ceremony takes place each spring in Beverly Hills, next to the Academy for Motion Pictures Arts and Sciences©® building (home of the Oscars©®) to honor the best in independent cinema of the past exhibition season.

Paul Thomas Anderson's "Inherent Vice", David Cronenberg's "Maps To The Stars", Lars von Trier's "Nymphomaniac", Harmony Korine's "Spring Breakers", the "Roar' re-release, the Brad Pitt production "The House I Live In", animation from Don Hertzfeldt, Henry Jaglom's "Festival In Cannes", Atom Egoyan's "Ararat", Kenneth Anger's "Scorpio Rising", and "The Fourth Dimension" from directors Jan Kwiecinski and Aleksei Fedorchenko & Harmony Korine (starring Val Kilmer), are all films that premiered at the IFS Film Festival.

ABOUT IFS:

Founded in 1993 the Independent Filmmakers Showcase was created by film students hosting screenings of obscure films, and evolving into a professional organization hosting the premiere film showcase series events in Los Angeles.

IFS supports the creation of new cinemas for independent film screenings, film forums and preservation of classic film venues; fostering a large community of filmmakers, students, and industry professionals dedicated to independent cinema.

Films are eligible for sponsor-awarded prizes in many genre categories each year. IFS Best Screenplay is Awarded $5000 cash.

GENERAL RULES

IFS RULES & REGULATIONS

- Submitters must be 18 years of age or older to enter any Independent Filmmakers Showcase (IFS) competition.
- Feel free to have parent / guardian submit on your behalf.
- The Independent Filmmakers Showcase reserves the right to refuse service to anyone.
- Entries in IFS competitions are void where prohibited by law.
- In submitting work to the Independent Filmmakers Showcase you are admitting that your entry is your original work, and does not infringe on the copyright or other rights of other people.
- Submitters agree by submitting to allow the IFS to screen any submitted entry up to (2) times in public, ticketed, for-profit screenings.
- Films submitted to the Independent Filmmakers Showcase (IFS) must not have major theatrical distribution deals in the United States of America that would conflict with your agreement allowing IFS to screen any submitted film.
- Entry fees must be paid in U.S. dollars before films will be viewed.
- Festival dates are subject to change.
- Independent Filmmakers Showcase is not responsible for films, posters or any materials that are stolen, missing, or lost in transit
- All festival screening times and venues are subject to delay or change.
- By submitting to the Independent Filmmakers Showcase, all listed creators authorize the submission.
- Any filmmaker or member of a film entourage causing a disruption or acting aggressively, disrespectfully or threateningly to any staff, and/or employees of venues or festival may have their film pulled from exhibition at any time without refund.
- IFS accepted guests are responsible to any personal damage done to any IFS Venue.
- In the event of multiple authors of an award or prize-winning work, awards and prizes will be divided equally among listed creators.
- IFS does not provide room, board or travel for filmmakers.
- Selected films receive two complementary passes for the good for the entire festival. Attendees must purchase any additional days and tickets.
- Submissions are non-returnable. Posters & Press materials are non-returnable. All fees are non-refundable.
- IFS cannot return original materials submitted for review &/or exhibition. Please do not send original materials.
- Exhibition Formats are subject to change and based on each unique festival venue.
- Films most always can screened in BluRay or DVD.
- DVD or BluRay back-up is always required for exhibit.
- Venues may offer 35mm, 16mm, DCP, or MOV file options.
- Short Films generally exhibited in BluRay/DVD only.
- Features exhibiting in 35mm, 16m or DCP (venue permitting) need to arrange with IFS for drop-off and pick-up of print copy.
- Festival does not cover cost of print shipping are return.
- In submitting to any IFS event via Withoutbox, the submitter is representing all the copyright holders of all submitted material.
- By submitting to IFS via Withoutbox the submitter agrees to all of the IFS General Festival Rules listed above, as well as all the IFS Terms of Use / Terms & Conditions / Disclaimer of Warranties listed below under Terms of Use / Terms & Conditions.

JUDGING PROCESS
All films submitted to the festival are watched and scored by screeners and programmers (members of the Independent Filmmakers Showcase who are students or professionals with background in journalism, film, film scholarship, and/or employment in Film or Television and/or journalism.

Films that have the highest score (or those specifically a championed by a programmer) move on to final deliberation and democratic vote by the IFS Board of Directors and the IFS Programming Directors. All submitted film copies are all held & screened to judges in one central location. Screener copies are never passed out to judges, screeners, or programming directors for safety and security of your films content.

FEE / JUDGING WAIVERS
In the spirit of fair competition no film is offered early or late acceptance nor offered waivers if part of general festival award and showcase competition. No Officially Selection is selected without going through the judging and fee process. IFS does offer paid private screening options for unofficially selected films that screen during the festival weeks.

The IFS also looks at films recommended by programmers and other festivals; but those films still must pay any requisite fees.
The IFS Board OF Directors has the right to vote films that have won awards at other IFS events and showcases and into IFS events without a second round of pre-screening.

All judge / reader / screener / programming director decisions are final.


TERMS AND CONDITIONS

IFS TERMS OF USE Failure to comply with Independent Filmmakers Showcase guidelines, rules, regulations, or eligibility may be cause for disqualification and result in having your film pulled from screening or competition. By entering (submitting to) any Independent Filmmakers competition you are admitting that you have read, understood and agreed to follow our Rules and Regulations for festival submission and to abide by our Terms and Conditions of service and our general festival Rules and Regulations. By entering (submitting to) any Independent Filmmakers competition, entrants release and hold the Independent Filmmakers Showcase, it’s Board of Directors, Officers, Staff and Volunteers harmless from and against all losses, damages, rights, claims and actions of any kind arising in whole or in part, directly or indirectly, from participation with the competition or participation in any competition related activity. By entering (submitting to) any Independent Filmmakers competition you are granting the Independent Filmmakers Showcase the right to use screen grabs, press materials, and stills from your movie on our advertisements, press materials, festival programs and website for a minimum 15 months preceding and following the festival year you submitted to. If you do not wish IFS to use your screen grabs, press materials or stills from your film in our advertisments, press materials and programs for this time period, you need to request in writing (please send to our email INFO@ifsfilm.com with a header of NO PRESS) that you do not want your materials used for such purposes. By entering (submitting to) any Independent Filmmakers competition you are admitting that you are 18 years of age or older. By entering (submitting to) any Independent Filmmakers competition you are granting the right for the Independent Filmmakers Showcase to screen your film publicly one to two times in the next twelve months (depending on the festival entered). By entering (submitting to) any Independent Filmmakers competition you acknowledge that you are not entitled to any refund or damage claims of any kind if your film is unable to screen due to technical or operational difficulties or if your film needs to be rescheduled or delayed for any reason. Independent Filmmakers Showcase is not responsible for broken or non-functioning films. All federal, state and local laws and regulations apply. Disclaimer of Warranties: YOU ACKNOWLEDGE AND AGREE THAT YOUR USE OF THE IFS WEBSITE, ATTENDANCE AT INEPENDENT FILMMAKERS SHOWCASE EVENTS, OR ENTERING INTO ANY INDEPENDENT FILMMAKERS SHOWCASE EVENT, CONTEST, FESTIVAL OR COMPETITION IS AT YOUR SOLE RISK. Governing Law. You acknowledge and agree that this Agreement shall be governed by and construed in accordance with the internal laws of the State of California, excluding conflict of laws provisions thereof that would indicate the application of the laws of any other jurisdiction and you hereby submit to exclusive jurisdiction in the federal and state courts of California. You agree to receive service of process through certified mail or by other means sanctioned by law, and you expressly waive any claim of improper venue and any claim that such courts are an inconvenient forum. All content contained on the Independent Filmmakers Showcase (IFS) Website, including but not limited to video, clips, photographs, text, graphics, logos, icons, images and software (collectively, “Content”), is the property of Independent Filmmakers Showcase and is protected by U.S. and/or international copyright laws. Any reproduction, modification, distribution, transmission, republication, display or performance of the content contained is strictly prohibited. If you use material appearing on the Website contrary as set forth in the Agreement, you may be liable for infringement, misappropriation or other causes of action to the fullest extent of the law. Trademarks. Unless otherwise indicated, all names, graphics, designs, logos, page headers, button icons, scripts, commercial markings, trade dress, and service names included in the Website are trademarks of the Independent Filmmakers Showcase and are protected by the trademark laws of the United States and other jurisdictions. You may not use, copy, reproduce, republish, distribute, modify or post any Trademarks in any way, including in advertising or publicity pertaining to or distribution of materials on the Website, without our prior written consent. The Trademarks may not be used in any manner that is likely to cause confusion, or in any manner that disparages or discredits us. Risk of Loss. You acknowledge and agree that your only remedy for failures, delays or interruptions with respect to the ordering of and delivery of passes ordered by you through the Website or submissions sent through the website, Brown Paper Tickets, Eventbrite, Withoutabox, or GoogleCheckout is limited to a refund for such passes, issued at the discretion of the Independent Filmmakers Showcase discretion. Right To Enter. Entrants warrant that they have the legal right to enter film work to the Independent Filmmakers Showcase. As Director/Producer/Submitter, entrants have submitted to the IFS, entrants represent and warrant to the IFS that the Submission and all parts thereof are original; that the Submission does not contravene the rights of any person or entity and that entrants own or control the Submission and all parts thereof and have the sole authority to submit the Submission to the IFS; and the Submission entrants submitted to the IFS is not subject to, nor threatened by, any litigation. Entrants acknowledge that no fiduciary or confidential relationship now exists between the Festival and entrants, and entrants further acknowledge that no such relationship is established by these guidelines, the Submission, or by the IFS acceptance, review or retention of the Submission.
