MISSION & OBJECTIVE

The New York Shorts International Film Festival showcases the finest short-form cinema from around the world to enthusiastic audiences in the vibrant filmmaking enclave of New York City.

New York Shorts offers short-form filmmakers an ideal platform to screen their film and gain recognition in the heart of New York City. New York Shorts premiered Ricky Gervais ‘Derek” in 2012, which became a popular British television show written, directed and starring Ricky Gervais. The series is now available on Netflix.

ABOUT THE FESTIVAL

The New York Shorts International Film Festival showcases the finest short-form cinema from around the world to enthusiastic audiences in the vibrant filmmaking enclave of New York City.

New York Shorts offers short-form filmmakers an ideal platform to screen their film and gain recognition in the heart of New York City. New York Shorts premiered Ricky Gervais ‘Derek” in 2012, which became a popular British television show written, directed and starring Ricky Gervais. The series is now available on Netflix.

New York Shorts events include receptions, as well as workshops and master classes with industry experts and top filmmaking professionals sharing their practical advice to attending filmmakers. The heart of the festival will be our quality and scope of extraordinary film programming.

New York Shorts feels that short form cinema and its creators should have their own premiere film festival in New York deserving similar recognition given to the feature film and its creators.

GENERAL RULES

2018 ENTRY REQUIREMENTS

Films must NOT have screened in another SHORT FILM FESTIVAL IN NEW YORK CITY.
Films must have been completed after August 1, 2016
All non-English films must have English sub-titles.
All films must be submitted via online screener
Works-in-progress will be considered, provided they will be completed prior to the festival.

Please do NOT send stills or press kits. If your film is selected we will ask you to email us a still image at that time.
You may enter more than one film, but you must complete a separate entry form and pay entry fee for each film.

Selection
Film selection for the festival will be made by the Festival Committee.
The selected filmmakers will be responsible for all shipping fees.
All filmmakers will be notified via email of acceptance.

The Grand Prize winning film will screen in competition at the Academy Award Qualifying LA Shorts International Film Festival, an official qualifying event for BAFTA short film awards and the Canadian Screen Awards.

The following awards will be announced:

Grand Prize
Best Foreign Film
Best Drama
Best Comedy
Best Animation
Best Documentary



TERMS AND CONDITIONS

New York Shorts is hereby granted the right to utilize an excerpt from any film submitted and accepted for exhibition at the Festival for promotional purposes.

The individual or corporation submitting the film hereby warrants that it is authorized to commit the film for screening, and understands and accepts these requirements and regulations.

The undersigned shall indemnify and hold harmless New York Shorts from and against any and all claims, liabilities, losses, damages, and expenses (including but not limited to attorney's fees, and costs of the court) which may be incurred by reason of any claim involving copyright, trademark, credits, publicity, screening, and loss of or damage to the screening videos entered.
