MISSION & OBJECTIVE
The Marblehead Festival of Arts Short Film Festival is part of the Marblehead Festival of Arts. The Arts Festival's Mission Statement is as follows:
To promote, foster and encourage the fine arts and other forms of arts and crafts, including, but not limited to: painting, music, drama, sculpture, cinema and ballet, and to promote, foster and encourage the artistic development of Marblehead through the medium of an annual arts festival.
ABOUT THE FESTIVAL
The Marblehead Festival of Arts Short Film Festival is a screening of short films submitted by filmmakers both in the United States and abroad. It is part of the Marblehead Festival of Arts, a community arts festival held in Marblehead, Massachusetts in early July of each year. This year's Arts Festival will be held June 30--July 4.
The Film Festival is a 90-minute screening of works selected from the submissions accepted from January to April. There are two screenings during the Arts Festival, one outdoors in a park overlooking Marblehead Harbor and the other in the Marblehead Public Library.
Film genres considered are fictional comedy and drama, documentary, animation, music video, or experimental/performance. They must not exceed 15 minutes. Films produced within the past two years are preferred. Entries must be submitted on an online screener.
The Short Film Festival has an Adult Division (ages 19 and up) and a Student/Youth Division ( ages 12 through 18). Only the adult division is eligible for the cash prizes. The entry fee for Adult submissions is $20.00.
There is no entry fee for student/youth submissions. However, Student/Youth submissions MUST be done through the Marblehead Festival of Arts website (www.marbleheadfestival.org), not through Withoutabox.
"Student" does NOT mean anyone going to school or associated with a school, but someone who is or was a student AND between the ages of 12--18.
The Marblehead Festival of Arts Short Film Festival is a competitive juried festival. Only the Adult Division is eligible for the cash prizes, $125 for Best of Show and $50 for Outstanding Work. Adult Honorable Mention winners and Best of Show winners in the Student/Youth Division will receive a ribbon..
Films may come from any country but dialogue and voiceovers must be in English. We can't accept films with subtitles because they are difficult to see in an outdoor screening venue.
Films chosen for the summer festival are eligible for inclusion in the Long Winter Short Film Festival, which occurs in February of the following year, and we may choose films submitted for the summer festival to be in the winter festival even though they might not have been chosen for the former. There is no separate call for entries for the winter festival.
The deadline for entries is April 6, 2018. The extended deadline is April 20, 2018
