BendFilm is known for our Guest Services. We take great care to cater to your every need. The HUB LADIES will guide you wherever and whenever necessary. Need a place to stay? We will help you there, too.

Bend is a destination location that festival fairy tales are made of. Small town, scenic, full of character... and there is no attitude. "Altitude without Attitude" is a favored motto. Red velvet ropes aren't allowed within the city boundaries during the month of October. Instead, the festival offers intimate access to all the action, the esteemed jurors and industry vets for the networking opportunities and, most importantly, the films and fun.

During the second weekend of October, Bend, Oregon is transformed from a recreational haven into a small-town possessed by the soul of independent film. Downtown theaters, lecture sites, restaurants, bars and party venues spark with the energy excited by the overwhelming presence of cinema.

Named one of MOVIEMAKER MAGAZINE's 50 Film Festivals Worth the Entry Fee, the event runs deeper than the marathon film-watching that fills guests' schedules from dawn until, well, dawn. Everyone you see on the sidewalks, in the restaurants and bars makes, cares, or has an opinion about film. It is the serendipitous encounters and ensuing discussions with the filmmakers and fellow passholders that makes the weekend so inspiring, affecting, and infectious.

Central Oregon is breathtakingly beautiful in October, and the opportunities for activities other than movie watching are endless, should attendees find some reason to disengage from the festival for a few hours. Bend is at the base of Mount Bachelor, the Three Sisters and Broken Top. The surroundings create stunning views, hiking, and mountain biking opportunities. The Deschutes River runs through town which again provides both beauty and recreation. Downtown Bend is charming and stocked with enough great stores that some travel here for the shopping alone.

TERMS AND CONDITIONS

GENERAL RULES

Submission to the 2018 BendFilm Festival constitutes an agreement with all festival terms and conditions, and permission to exhibit the work during the festival if selected. Entrants warrant that they have the legal right to submit the work to BendFilm, that all statements made in this application are true and accurate, and that all necessary rights and clearances have been secured to exhibit the work at the festival.

To be eligible for the 2018 BendFilm Festival, submitted work must have been completed after January 1, 2017, and may not have been publicly screened or broadcast in Central Oregon prior to the 2018 festival dates.

Work accepted to screen at the festival will be programmed in competitive and non-competitive categories at the sole discretion of BendFilm. Venue(s), program time(s) and number of screenings of selected work are also at the sole discretion of BendFilm. The number of scheduling slots available for competitive and non-competitive narrative features, documentary features and short films may vary from year to year.

BendFilm DOES NOT provide screening fees or honorariums for submitted work — or for any film screening as part of the festival’s juried competition. Films not accepted into the juried competition may still be eligible for audience awards, as determined by the BendFilm programming committee.

BendFilm may deny acceptance of any film at its sole discretion. ENTRY FEES ARE NON-REFUNDABLE.

Online screeners must be provided for submissions to be reviewed by the Bendfilm programming committee. If not provided through Withoutabox, a direct Vimeo link and password can be emailed to info@bendfilm.org after submission.

Entrants will be notified of their submission’s selection status on or about September 1, 2018.

If accepted, the entrant agrees to provide an exhibition file in BendFilm's required format along with a BluRay backup by September 14, 2018. Foreign language films must be subtitled in English. Any costs necessary to deliver the exhibition file to BendFilm in the required format, or for any necessary subtitling, is the sole responsibility of the entrant.

Entrant also agrees to allow BendFilm to keep a copy of their submission in the BendFilm Lending Library, should it be accepted into the festival’s lineup. The Lending Library has been a BendFilm member benefit since 2006 and allows members living in Bend to enjoy films that have played past editions of the festival, most of which they would not have access to otherwise. (To opt out of the BendFilm Lending Library program, please notify BendFilm in writing by November 1, 2018.)

If the submission becomes an "Official Selection" and/or wins a Jury or Audience Award, BendFilm requests that this be noted on promotional materials. Festival laurels are available to all Official Selections and Award winners.

All materials sent from outside the United States must be sent "free domicile" to the BendFilm office, with all transportation charges, duties and taxes prepaid by shipper. BendFilm will not handle customs clearances, so please be sure to include all of the proper customs documentation required by your shipping service. BendFilm will cover return shipping to the address designated as the Print Source, or to another festival or destination, within the continental United States via ground shipping.

Although every possible care will be taken with exhibition material in our possession, BendFilm is not responsible for loss or damage. Please do not send originals, special prints or master tapes.
