|The African American Women In Cinema Festival will feature the works of emerging and established women filmmakers of color who are of the African, Latino, Asian and Native American Diaspora.
MISSION & OBJECTIVE
Our goal is to expand, explore and create opportunities for minority women filmmakers within the entertainment industry through:
To publicize and increase various resources leading to the development of the practical skills necessary to advance in the business of filmmaking and offer them to minority women seeking self-expression through the medium of film.
To encourage, promote and support talent, individual expression and diversity for the good of the individual and society as a whole.
To showcase the work of talented minority women filmmakers through the production of film festivals, and among other developmental projects.
To produce industry panel discussions, workshops, seminars that foster continued learning and nurture growth.
To develop a database of contacts within the film and television industry consisting of writers, producers, directors, actors, tech people and general information that would be accessible to aspiring and working filmmakers.
In addition, African American Women in Cinema recognizes, promotes and encourages diversity and cultural exchange by actively seeking out both creative and business collaboration and alliances with any other organizations that share similar goals and ideals.
ABOUT THE FESTIVAL
The 20th African American Women In Cinema Festival will feature the works of emerging and established women of color filmmakers from around the world and will offer Master Classes, and Keynote Panels which focus on industry related topics, amongst additional programming. It is the aspiration of African American Women In Cinema, through this Festival, to give talented women a path to fulfilling their dreams, through exposure of their talents, peer interaction and through mentoring by established professionals in the media and entertainment field.
Through the past 20 years, filmmakers who have participated in this event have secured distribution deals, production opportunities and have gain the educational insight from prominent industry professionals that have enhance their career.
This year we are proud to offer in addition to our film screening program a webisode competition in partnership with Hello Beautiful!
Participating filmmakers will have the opportunity to compete for the coveted 20th AAWIC FF Audience Award and Webisode creators will be competing for a cash prize.
We are proud of this years supporters including: Women Connect 4 Good, Urban Movie Channel, New York Women In Film & Television, and Hello Beautiful.
Past participants and honorees include: Nia Long, Kasi Lemmons, Neema Barnette, Elise Neal, Regina King, Lisa Arrindell Anderson and Vanessa Williams to name a few.

-Films must be Directed or Written or Produced by women filmmakers of color.
-Filmmakers submitting their film for consideration of the 2018 AAWIC Film Festival must be a minimum of 18 years old.
-Filmmakers submitting in the English language or have English language subtitles.
-Films can be shot in any format and must be completed (credits, etc.)
-For Shorts, the maximum running time required is 40 minutes with a minimum of 1 minute.
-Feature Films-films must have a minimum running time of seventy-five (75) minutes.
If mailing submissions, there must be two (2) completed submission form(s) signed. All submission fees are non-refundable and must be paid by Money Order or Bank check only. Please it payable to African American Women In Cinema.
-Must mail two (2) DVD's or USB format of film. Please do not send sase or originals, as they will not be returned. No Pal formats accepted.
-Two (2) copies of filmmaker bio and synopsis.
-Two (2) copies of photo still from film
-One (1) self-address post car (will serve as notification of receipt of materials).
-Title and name of entry must be on all materials and containers.
-Can submit multiple entries, however, separate form and fee are required for each.
-Filmmakers will be solely responsible for the delivery of their film (including all shipping cost) regardless of format to and from the festival.
TERMS AND CONDITIONS
Please read the following terms and conditions in connection with your submission to the AAWIC 2018 Annual Film Festival. As the filmmaker (Director or Writer or Producer) , I/We have submitted to AAWIC and warrant as sole and exclusive owner(s) of all legal right and the title thereto have absolute authority to submit the enclosed material to AAWIC.
I/We will indemnify and hold harmless AAWIC its jurors, sponsors and partners individually and collectively, from and against all claims, demands losses, damages, costs, liability and expenses including legal expenses apprising out of or in connection with any and all claims, or third party claims based on material submitted to AAWIC. AAWIC Annual Film Festival selectees and winners will permit AAWIC to use title of the work submitted and the logline, their name, and or likeness & publicity stills in publicity and promotional efforts.
