DECISIONS ALREADY MADE • This event has already made decisions and notified submitters for the current cycle. Submissions are no longer being accepted.

Live Action
Live Action uses real actors and has a story with a clear beginning, middle and end. We accept any genre of Live action - horror, drama, comedy - and the film can be any length between 30 seconds and 30 minutes.
Documentary
Documentaries can be about any topic. They generally do not use live actors or a 'script'. They inform the audience about a place, event or program and usually involve interviews with and about the subject.
Animation
Animated films can be traditional animation, computer animation, stop-motion animation or other forms. They can be as short as 30 seconds or as long as 30 minutes.
Music Video / Experimental
This category is for films without dialogue and/or traditional story lines. Music Videos are accepted in this category as well as non-linear and abstract entries.
Santa Monica Budding Filmmaker
This category is for Young Filmmakers who live, work or go to school in the City of Santa Monica. We like to recognize the "best" local film each year.
Eco Film
The Eco Film Award goes to the film which best exemplifies the spirit of Environmentalism and green stewardship.
Red Cross Award
This category will award the filmmaker who's work most effectively deals with the theme of "Emergency Preparedness." This does not mean you need to submit a PSA on how to best prepapre yourselves for an Earthquake, although you could...

To be eligible for this category your film must have a character, story line or theme that relates to "Emergency Preparedness" - whether natural disaster or man-made - in some noticeable way.

This special category is sponsored by the American Red Cross - Santa Monica Chapter.

MISSION & OBJECTIVE
The Santa Monica Teen Film Festival is an interdepartmental initiative between the Santa Monica Cultural Affairs Division, the Santa Monica Public Library, the Virginia Avenue Park Teen Center and City TV. Its purpose is to showcase and provide an outlet for the creative talents of teen filmmakers, as well as encourage youth to use the art of filmmaking as a form of creative expression and commentary on the world in which they live. Although the festival is open to films by teens from around the globe, the public screenings take place in Santa Monica. You do not need to be present at screenings to win an award.

ABOUT THE FESTIVAL
The SANTA MONICA TEEN FILM FESTIVAL is FREE to enter! FREE to attend! We are entering our 8th year and have awarded trophies, gift certificates and other awards to dozens of young filmmakers from age 12-18 from all over the world.

One of the best "prizes" we offer are meetings with working industry professionals and visits to active film sets! We also offer career seminars and industry Q&A's throughout the year. All of this is geared toward demystifying the business of filmmakers and encouraging youth to get involved with film.

This year we are pleased to announce a partnership with the Relativity School of Film, Media and the Performing Arts. The overall winner of the Festival will be given a FULL SCHOLARSHIP to their 3 week summer film school intensive. (A value of $3,500!)
