MISSION & OBJECTIVE
The Environmental Film Festival at Yale (EFFY) is the premier student-run festival for environmental films. The 6th annual EFFY will showcase the arts through incisive, cutting-edge films that raise awareness of environmental and related social issues. We aim to facilitate meaningful discourse and spark action and innovation throughout the Yale community and beyond.

Behind the scenes, EFFY incorporates sustainability in its operations by offsetting all emissions generated by the festival, using paperless ticketing, electronic advertisements, organic catering, and working with like-minded environmentally-conscious sponsors and groups.

ABOUT THE FESTIVAL
EFFY is currently accepting submissions for our 6th annual festival, occurring March 31 - April 6, 2014 in New Haven, CT. Films may explore any aspect of environmental or related social issues.

Founded in 2009 by students at the Yale School of Forestry and Environmental Studies, EFFY is now touted by the Oscars as one of the "20 Great Resources for Green Filmmakers," and has become the world's premier student-run festival for environmental films.

Beyond the screen, EFFY works to provide additional opportunities for audiences to engage with important environmental issues. To facilitate this, we pair every screening with a Q&A or panel discussion with filmmakers, scholars, and other notable figures. This year's special events and workshops will emphasize storytelling. All screenings and special events are free and open to the public, and draw audiences from across the northeastern United States.

Past festivals have included presentations by Dan Rather, Van Jones, James Gustave Speth, Colin Beavan, and Jeffrey Sachs, as well as the East Coast Premiere of "Crude," the U.S. Premiere of "The Blood of the Rose", the World Premiere of "YERT: Your Environmental Road Trip," Special Advanced Screenings of Disneynature’s "Earth," "Oceans," and "African Cats," Oscar nominees "Waste Land" and "The Tsunami and the Cherry Blossom," and the Academy-Award winning film "The Cove."

EFFY 2013 hosted the U.S. Premiere of "GMO OMG," a special screening of Fox Searchlight's "The East" with special guest Director Zal Batmanglij, and the New England premiere of "A River Changes Course," directed by Kalyanee Mam. Mam said of the festival, "EFFY's programmers themselves are leaders in the environmental movement. The festival is a true platform for sharing stories and discussing the many environmental issues facing our world today."
