    MISSION & OBJECTIVE:

    The 100 WORDS FILM FESTIVAL celebrates concise storytelling for professional and student filmmakers. Each film must use EXACTLY 100 spoken words. This is the only festival requirement. Films can be any length and on any subject.

    Filmmakers must submit their films and a matching 100 word script. Films should NOT include a graphic word counter. If your film is selected for the festival, the festival's graphics team will add the appropriate 100 words graphic counter to your film.

    Ojai is an ideal site for a film festival, both because of its exceptional natural beauty and it proximity to the filmmaking capital of the world. It is appropriate that a community noted for its strong commitment to supporting the arts, as reflected in the various arts-related events that take place here every year, should host an event dedicated to the celebration of the only truly new art form of the Twentieth Century.

    The Film Festival brings to its audience a great diversity of unique motion pictures from around the world, including many groundbreaking works that would otherwise be inaccessible. At the same time, it provides a valuable service to filmmakers by giving them access to a highly appreciative audience of intelligent and informed film lovers.

    We are particularly proud of the increasing number of films shown at our festival which are later honored by the Motion Picture Academy.

    Over the years, we have shown many recipients of Academy Award nominations for "Best Documentary Short" and "Best Animated Short" and awarded prizes to most of them.

All of our readers approach scripts differently, but in general we are looking for originality and promise in a work. As an organization, we strive to foster an independent spirit among new writers and filmmakers. We've established a strong track record through our competition successes and are committed to continuing our pursuit to champion outstanding new work.

    Our competition consists of four categories. Awards are given to the top three scripts in each category. In addition to that, Slamdance will present the Grand Prize for the best screenplay, regardless of category.
