    MISSION & OBJECTIVE:

    The Best Shorts Competition

Celebrating Short Films, Television and New Media worldwide. Our mission is to support filmmakers!

The Best Shorts Competition is unique in the industry. Attracting both powerhouse companies as well as talented new filmmakers it is an exceptional, truly international awards competition, not a traditional film festival – which allows filmmakers from around the world to enter their films in this prestigious competition. Our talented Best Shorts award winners have gone on to win Oscar, Emmy, Telly and other awards.

Currently in its 5th year, the Best Shorts is an avant-garde worldwide competition that strives to give talented directors, producers, actors, new media creators and members of the creative teams a unique venue for their work and the positive exposure they deserve. It discovers and honors the achievements of filmmakers who produce high quality shorts and new media.

Best Shorts promotes award winners through press releases to over 43,000 filmmakers, industry contacts and global media / distribution outlets. We are currently developing a filmmaker representative program to assist with the distribution of award winning films and a joint venture with The GRID, a worldwide network for mobile devices – both coming in 2015.

The popularity of the Short Film genre increases every year. Options for festival directors have grown by leaps and bounds as more and more short films are created by talented filmmakers. Every film deserves the chance to be seen and with the main goal of traditional film festivals to bring entertainment to local audiences…this can make the filmmaker of secondary importance. At Best Shorts Competition, every film entered is judged on its own merits by our panels of Emmy, Telly and Communicator award nominees and winners.

    CATEGORIES:

    • Narrative Short
    • Blue Collar Heroine Challenge

    MISSION & OBJECTIVE:

The Bluestocking Film Series is an exclusive showcase for high-quality, provocative short fiction films featuring complex female protagonists driving the story and leading the action. This innovative screening series takes place at SPACE Gallery in the beautiful, culturally vibrant city of Portland, Maine. The series also travels around the country and the world.

The only film event in the world to require female protagonists, submissions must also pass the Bechdel Test. We celebrate and promote talented, established and emerging filmmakers who take the creative risk of placing female protagonists front and center. We introduce audiences to those who are contributing to the art and craft of cinema and who have the potential to influence the future of filmed entertainment.

We encourage and promote production of narratives that reflect the diverse experiences of women/girls. We have a marked preference for well-structured, highly visual, cutting edge, provocative films, especially ones that explore the plurality and variety of female relationships.

To be considered, your submission must feature a female protagonist and pass The Bechdel Test (film must feature at least 2 female characters who talk to each other about something other than a man). To find out more about the test, please Google it.

At this time, we invite submissions of short NARRATIVE FICTION films ONLY. Feature length films will not be considered. Straightforward documentaries will not be considered.
