International Competition attracts more than 5000 submissions from all over the world. Best Short Award winner will receive 600,000 Yen (approx. US$5,400)! In addition, the Audience Award winner will receive 200,000 Yen (approx. US$1,800). Also the Grand Prix, selected from the three official competitions (International, Asia International, Japan) will be eligible for an Academy Award® nomination in the short film categories the following year. In 2004, SSFF & ASIA launched the Asia International Competition to support short films produced in Asian countries. In 2016, we attracted more than 1200 submissions from Asian regions. Best Short Award winner will receive 600,000 Yen (approx. US$5,400). In addition, the Audience Award winner will receive 200,000 Yen (approx. US$1,800). The festival is not only looking for films that take place in Tokyo, but also for films that depict memories of Tokyo, impressions of Tokyo, or even shops in overseas locations that offer an experience of "Tokyo". Short Films on Any environmental issues, such as global warming, air pollution, disruption of the ozone layer and so forth, must be the main themes. SSFF & ASIA created the “STOP! Global Warming Competition” in 2008 in collaboration with Team-6%, a national energy-saving campaign initiated by the Japanese Ministry of Environment. In 2013, we changed the name to “Save the Earth! Competition,” and have continued to gather excellent short films with themes relating not only to global warming, but also to various other environmental issues. Less
